Bigos (Poland)
Recipe Description
I worked in a Polish bakery last summer and I learned about fabulously flavorful bigos (or Hunter's stew) I put a lot less meat than the original recipe calls for which brings the price down to about 5$ for 4 to 6 servings...not bad! This is the crock pot version.
Preparation Steps:put everything in the crockpot and mix well. Cook on Low for about 8 hours.
Level of Difficulty:Easy
Time Needed:prep: 30 cook: 8 hours
Ingredients:1 14-16 oz can saurkraut
2 rounded cups shredded cabbage
1lb kielbasa, sliced
1/3 lbs bacon into chunks
2 carrots, sliced
3-4 cups beef stock
1 apple, diced
1 onion, chopped
1-2 bay leaves
2 tablespoon peppercorns
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 cup red wine (optional)
1 tsp paprika
4-5 mushrooms, chopped
Serves:2 rounded cups shredded cabbage
