My crockpot is no longer safe to use and I have had to say good bye.

Good bye beloved crockpot . I remeber when we first met. You were wrapped up so pretty in wedding present paper.

You taught this newlywed how to use a crockpot. You patiently waited while I learned that one can burn dinner in a crockpot.

I learned so much from your beloved crockpot, so much that you were coming out of the cupboard at least once a week to make my family dinner.

You have watched this wife turn from cooking for two to wife and mother cooking for a family with a teenager and a child. You load had increased much yet you didn't complain.

You didn't complain when the load was increased or when your knob feel off and we started using a crescent wrench to turn you on.

You soldiered on.

But today I noticed the your cord has frayed, that you are showing your age, and you are no longer safe to use so we must say our good byes.

Thank you for your faithful service to this wife, mother and her family.
Good Bye Rest in Peace my Beloved Crockpot. You were loved.

Have the 7 quart, look into Hamilton Beach and white color as they supposedly don't have the high lead content that is allowed in crock pots . Look into lead content in crock pots now.

I know it's probably to soon to think about another crock pot after having lost this one so recently. Your friend that was always there when you needed it. But please dig deep in you heart and pocket book. Won't you consider bringing another one home for the holidays. There are just so many out there waiting to be loved. Maybe another style, like an oval, so it won't constantly reminder of your first one?? And consider too, they are on sale-not that thats the only consideration of course. I am so sorry for your loss. Change is hard!!lol

This is the season to adopt a new one as they are plentyful and are begging to be adopted for the holidays ( great sales right now)

imagine - I'm so sorry for your loss!

Im wondering if mine is 'safe' to use anymore and if its worth it to have it rewired - if possible? Its a 2 prong plug, not one with a ground like the newer ones I've seen...until I need to replace mine, the 20+ yr old 1970's brown crock still has a job and a home :) They just don't make them like they used to!

RIP beloved crock pot :(

My first one will be arriving in the mail shortly, courtesy of my dad...who was out shopping Black Friday deals in Indiana, while I was out shopping here in FL. He's sending me the 5 qt. Hamilton Beach one that was on sale at WalMart for $10. My WalMart was sold out by 10 AM :( I blame the snowbirds...LOL. I hope mine can teach me as much as yours did :). (I definitely heard the advice about still being able to burn dinner in it, loud and clear! LOL)

Enjoy the adventure.

There are many great recipes for the crockpot on the net.

I'm currently enjoying a blog with the lady that cooked in her crockpot everyday for a year and shared about it recipes and all.

Thanks for posting this. I found this on Hamilton Beach's Web Site:

Q Does the crock contain lead?

A Hamilton Beach specifications applicable to all slow cookers and their components (including the earthenware crocks) prohibits the product from containing any measurable amounts of lead. Furthermore, the factories that manufacture the earthenware crocks for Hamilton Beach are certified ceramic production facilities whose ceramic ware is deemed to satisfy FDA heavy metal requirements. Hamilton Beach takes all reasonable steps to ensure that the earthenware crocks accompanying our slow cookers provide safe and satisfactory service to our consumers.

Now I am especially glad this is the brand I ended up with :)

My crockpot of 30 years has been semi-retired. It is a 6 qt Montgomery Ward with a removeable crock, the lid finally broke on it. When I went to try to find a replacement lid, I noticed the serial # was 0720, so this was one of their earlier models. A lid from one of my pans happened to be a perfect fit, so I can still use it, but I did buy a 5 qt Hamilton Beach and retired the old one. I can still pull it out when I need to do a large batch of something, but it was time to let it rest some, and let a younger crockpot take up the reins. ;)

I looked at those the pot looked a bit small for the amount I normally need to make. But making three things would be cool.
