Ask questions, we have lots of gardners who are capable of helping you with your garden problems.

Don't know what to plant? Post the details of your region - the climate and the conditions in your garden, you will get feedback that will help you. There may even be a helpful gardener near you who can offer some local advice.

Gardening can be a useful tool to the frugal homemaker. When you get your vegetables growing well, you can save money. We have a seed and cuttings exchange too so you may be able to swap seeds so you don't have to buy what you need.

It's getting to be seed starting time for sure.

For those wanting cheap easy gardens starting a flat of perennials is a marvellous way to increase your stock.

And its almost time for northern gardens to plant tomatoes to get a jump on the season. That usually happens in Feb but it's coming up.

I'm gearing up for the season.

Gardening calls will be coming into the extension office. I need to get in there and find out whats new.

I have quite a while untill I can plant anything. I am going to redo my perrenial gardens Dig, divide and till in some compost.

I cant wait.

I love to garden and can . Since I moved to Florida last year I have not done anything planting wise
My husband and I have cleaned a spot for my garden this year but thats about it. My sons asked me if we were going to have monster tomatoes again. (in Mississippi our tomatoe plants grew to almost 5 feet tall) If any one on the boards is from Florida I would love planting advice such as when to plant and what to plant here. Our family likes tomatoes, carrots, bell peppers and cucumbers. Never done good when planting cantalope and watermellons. The last year in MS we planted corn. It grew wonderfull in New Mexico but not so good in MS. OK OK I'll shut up for now and watch the boards.

I'm pretty good at veggies but I'd love some info on fruit trees! I got 3 in the mail today (3 standard pears and 3 dwarf apples) and will be planting them out tomorrow. I figure I'll dig, plant, mulch, stake, and water.

Any tips I need to know for right now?

I hoghly suggest Vegetable Gardening in Florida by James M. Stephens. :thumb: Check for it at your local library. It breaks the state into sections and gives specific info for each.

I just bought the Southern Living Gardening Book and it's packed with info Stel! I also have Month to Month Gardening in Florida and Edible Landscaping both by Tom MacCubbin which are great!

I live in North Louisiana. Not sure what zone that is. My garden does fine until the extreme hot weather in August and September hits and then it does nothing.

Diane, just off the top of my head I know apples, and maybe pears too, need pruning when they are planted. It makes a bif difference to the amount of fruit you'll get.

I've never grown apples, as I'm in the subtropics, but I do grow fruit trees. I'll get you some info and post it.
