Cannin Lid Question ?

My BF wants to know if when you can something and it
seals --- Can you take it off and use the band again ?

The band, absolutely yes- you do not need to keep it on the canned item and you can reuse it. The lid, absolutely no- can't be reused.

Wanted to add that because of this, you can buy boxes of the lids separately- since the bands can be reused, you don't have to purchase them new every time you need to can something.

I take mine off shortly after the lids have sealed-- I only have enough bands to run through 2 rounds of my pressure canner. . . .

I also want to point out that you can reuse the lids for FREEZING after they've been used for canning. Or for dry goods in the cabinet. BUT once they've been used for canning, they cannot be used for canning again.

I've reused them for dry foods,as Valerie said and also they're good to make christmas ornaments with

They can be painted....santa,snowmen,pictures pasted on... etc and a hole punched in for hanging
