I found this recipe when searching for something exciting to do with hamburger----I'm getting sick of hamburger helper, even if dh loves it.

Here's the recipe for Cheapskate Stew

INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
1/2 onion, chopped
3 stalks celery, chopped
2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
2 cups water
3 carrots, chopped
2 cups cooked elbow macaroni
1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DIRECTIONS:
Brown the hamburger meat with onion and celery. Drain (if it is fatty hamburger meat).
Add water and carrots, then cook 'til carrots are beginning to get tender. The carrots will be crunchy unless you cook them a fairly long time.
Add leftover vegetables, macaroni, tomato sauce, Italian spices, and salt and pepper to taste, and simmer until the flavors blend and all ingredients are warm through.

You can do something similar yet different...

Brown hamburger, onion, celery, bell pepers if wanted... then pour in water and add a boullion cube, pepper, garlic( greek seasoning is yummy in this too), veggall( or add fresh veggies and then add noodles after veggies are almost tender), can of cream of mushroom or golden mushroom soup, egg noodles ( not cooked). Mix corn starch in cold water and add ... mix til thickened. Then take off the heat and let cool slightly. Add a Dollup of sour cream and mix completely.

And you have Stroganoff Stew

Here is a tip to make this even cheaper. Keep a freezer bag or container in your freezer and put all of your leftover veggies from dinners in there. I only put what is left in the pot and not what was on peoples plates. After you get the 2 cups needed make it into veggie soup.
I am actually cooking this today.

Here is my recipe though:
1 pack stew meat or ground beef
1 can store brand V8 Juice
frozen leftover veggies
Salt and pepper to taste

Boil the meat in the Veggie Juice until its done and tender enough for you, adding lost water as needed. Add in the veggies and cook for about 30 minutes.
