Checked this DVD out of the library. Loved it that the main characters Ada and Imnman were loyal to each other and Inman's one thought was to get back to the woman he loved. He had chances to be unfaithful to Ada but never wavered in his love. Hated the last five minutes of the movie. Too sad.

haven't seen the movie but I have the book.

and ironically enough...Inman is a cousin of mine (at least the 'real' person being portrayed).

I enjoyed the book far more than the movie, although it took me three tries to read through the entire book.

DId the movie stay close to the book? I find sometimes that when I read a book and then see the movie a lot is changed in the movie.

I love the book so much (have read it 6 times) that when the film was released I wasn't going to go see it. After all, there is so much detail and internal monologue in the book. My dd & I went together & were amazed at the quality & faithfulness to story. OK lots of things have to be changed slightly or compressed but I think the director did an amazing job. I always cry at the end, & yes, I have the music cd too!

I think I have said this before but I bought the book as soon as it hit the shelves because Charles Frasier was raised in my town. As a matter of fact his father was my high school principal. The cold mountian he writes about is about 40 miles from here. Even though the movies was actually filmed some were in Russia it looks so much like the mountians here in NC.
Oh and I loved both the book and the movie, but like some of you it took me sometime to get through the book. The funny thing is all while I was reading it I kept telling my husband that it would make a great movie because of how descriptive it was.

IMO they changed a lot. One huge change was the character that Renee Zellweger played.

I loved the scenery in that movie particularly Ada's family farm. I would love to have a property like that one.
