Dangerous - Please Take The Time To Read And Check!!!!

I received this in an email and I looked it up and it was true....gives the person all the following info.


This is true...I just looked up my phone number and it gave exact
directions to my home and I had it removed!! This is very dangerous!!

Many people are unaware of this danger. Our daughter had a stalker who just happened to be a man she worked with at the bank (the vice president of the bank!)

(1.) Go to www.google.com <http://www.google.com>
then type in your phone number (separated by hyphens,
including area code) and click on Google Search.
If your phone number is listed, it will show your name
and address and give you two map options: Yahoo and MapQuest.
See how accurate the map is to your home.

Any person wishing to discover the physical location of a phone
number, be it a home or business address, could use this feature to locate a physical street address, and receive directions on how
to get there from anywhere in the country. In the age of the internet communication we all know the dangers of this --
for adults and our children --- even grandchildren!

Google has made available an option that will allow anyone to REMOVE their telephone number from the database that is linked to the mapping feature.

TO REMOVE YOUR NAME & NUMBER ETC.:
(1.) You will first need to check if your number is listed in this
manner by attempting a search - entering your full
telephone number separated by dashes
(e. g., 404-524-5811).

(2.) If the number appears in the mapping database, an icon
resembling a telephone will appear next to the first
or second entry on the results page. Clicking on this
icon ( the telephone icon next to your phone number) will take you to a page containing a description of the service, and a link to
request your number be removed from the database.

Thank you for posting about this. I did a check and sure enough my number was there with really detailed directions on how to get right to my front door. Scary!!!! I removed my name and number from their data base!

My address is not in the phone book. Just our number so all it pulls up is a nerby city. I still requested to be removed though. I hope it's not some marketing scheme to sale our email addy's and phone numbers.

I tried this but nothing happened - Is that because I live in the UK or just because I'm dumb?

It is dangerous and scary though if people can get detailed directions to your home!

I think the only way that you are listed is if you are listed in your phone book. We do not have an unlisted number, but we are not listed in our local phone book. I checked, and I am not in the database. With sites like mapquest and expedia, as long as someone has an address, they can always get directions to it.

I have a listed number, but it didn't show up. Did I do it right? I went to google and just typed in my number like this ***-***-**** Is that the right way?

Both my old number and my new number but neither have my name or anything even close to my address on them.

Actually, if you have a listed number and or address no matter what search engine you go into, you name,phone number and address will show up.IF you go into yahoo under people search , it will even tell your age and then if you want to spend some money you can find out personal info on them. If you never want any of your information listed out there, do not have it listed in your phone book, that is where they get their info from. I am unlisted and I have yet to find any info about me out there in computer land. You can get your address from a map source on the internet, again they get there info from your phone book. Stop it there and you won't be listed anywhere
