My DD 8 is sick again!!! She has been sick a lot this year. Now she has a viral throat infection with a fever over 100. I wish they could tell me why she is getting sick so much. They did a strep test and will call me if it comes back positive but they said they are pretty sure it won't and it is just a viral thing.

Awww. I used to get Strep a lot. Just about every sore throat turned out to be Strep when I was a kid. Thankfully thus far as an adult I haven't had it yet for years and years. Maybe she'll grow out of it.

Good meals, vitamins, outdoor time in the sunshine, exercise, just keeping the body in good shape is about all we can do as far as I know.

does she eat well- does she get enough sleep - how many activities is she involved in ?

does she get a multivitamin ? my dh makes sure the kids get a multivit each day and adds extra C in the winter and my kids rarely get real ill - allergy headaches yes- but if they get a virus it lasts 1/2 the time it does for the 0ther kids in school. havent had strep here in over 10 years despite it going thru the school many times over .

also if she takes any regular medications - ck the side effects many lower ones immune system a little as a side effect

Change her toothbrush every week.

And regular, effective handwashing. Like 60 seconds of lather and friction 8-10 times per day.

Seriously, I am a nut about handwashing (not OCD, just observant) and despite working in the ER and around peds patients, I virtually never get sick. Even during flu season - never had the immunization, never had the flu.

Are you changing her toothbrush after each illness? Sometimes kids can reinfect themselves.

Don't forget that kids playing with kids is just a germ fest at times. My nephews first day at school he came home with a cold.

Both of you suffer when she gets sick - seems as if it is never a simple thing - and that takes such a tole on both of you - sending prayers, hugs and aloha - please take care of yourself too!!
