Time to stock up folks. This time of year ham is on sale like no other time. I'm seeing local prices of $1.59 to $1.99 on spiral sliced hams from different stores and brands. I remove the sliced meat and repackage it in dinner sized servings, and then pack the chunks on the end of the bone to use later in soup or casserole. Broken up like this they take up a lot less room in the freezer. If I am feeling really frugal I make stock out of the bone.

I found a spiral pre sliced, pre cooked ham for 1.29 a pound last week in Aldi's. It was 1.49 a pound marked down 20 cents a pound. I am thinking I should have bought a second one. Well maybe this week if the deal is still on.

I just bought a small sliced boneless ham, but I saw that one of our local stores had the spiral sliced for 1.49 - how do I NOT buy one that that price?

Even more tempting, another store has whole boneless pork loin for 1.57 a pound, a price I have never seen. Sliced up that makes some super chops.

But how to stuff it all in the freezer? I wish it opened into Narnia like the wardrobe. Then I could just dump some of the packages into the snow out back!

I bought one of the hams today, and really wanted two of the pork loins, but gave myself a stern mental talking too at the meat case and only got one. The sale is on until Christmas. I'll package this one and all the ham and reassess space. Maybe I'll be able to get another in after I cook this week.

This really is a great time of year to stock up on meats.

Good thinking Donna. it is easy to go overboard on the savings, but must remember the storing too. Want to get our ham soon - although DD doesn't really care for it we can definitely work around that with some of her favorites too - that is what the holidays are all about anyway.
