What a hard life. I'm thankful to have the conveniences of modern day.... especially air conditioning, and a modern stove!!!!

Cooper is constantly writing of her exhaustion and weariness:

Friday, July 7, 1769.
Hot as yesterday. I am dirty and distressed, almost weared to death. Dear Lord, deliver me.

I am always criticizing myself for being so tired & lazy all the time, thinking that pioneer women were actually able to happily take on huge workloads without complaint, while I can barely make it through the comparatively tiny amount of work that I need to do. It sounds terrible, but I actually took some comfort in the knowledge that women back then found their lives overwhelmingly exhausting.
