Don't do it as a money saver.......I just think it is better for your skin.......but then I am not in an office every day. When I was.........I wore makeup..........but never wore very much.

How about cutting out just some of it??.........you didn't say what all you used.

In the winter, I also use olive oil on my skin instead of the 'store bought' moisturizers.........face/neck only.........too greasy to use elsewhere.

No, I do not do away with make up. I don't buy the $$$$ brands, I mix my own power but I wear it.

I do. At home, I only wear mascara and moisturizer. When I go shopping I add a powder. If I worked I would wear moistuzer, powder, blush and mascara with a tinted lip balm. I do not wear eyeliner or eyeshadow.

It really depends on your face I guess. I worked with some people who arrived to work days late with no makeup on and we didn't even recognize them! It was almost scary. I have always been a true believer that less is more. :)

You also have to factor in the shelf life of the makeup. You won't be saving any money if you have to throw out 1/2 used containers because they are past their due.

Makeup is one thing I splurge on. Well not the expensive kind because so many brands are overrated and not worth it.

I guess it just depends on how important it is to you. If I was working, I wouldn't feel guilty for buying it. :)

Thanks for the suggestions....I wear pretty much everthing. Foundation, concealer, powder, eyeliner, eyeshadow, blush, sometimes lipgloss but mainly chapstick, mascara.

I have extremely oily skin. I am 43 and have some fine lines. I am pretty fair and have had people as me if I am sick when I don't wear makeup. I also have sensitive skin and seborrhic dermatitus. I get tired of putting it on but feel I should so I don't look ill.

I wear makeup to work. Not to the grocery store, not around the house, only to work. Mostly that is because I feel like people treat me more professionally if I am nicely dressed and wearing a bit of makeup.

Lori, thank you for bringing up this subject....I was just thinking of this subject today. I quit wearing makeup about 3 weeks ago, just about the time I was freaking out about money issues.

I used to buy the BEST make up (Bare Escenuals) and so forth, but now I feel like I won' be able to replenish it when it runs out or expires. I do look and feel better about myself with makeup on though, so I'll go back to it.

It does shave off some time in the mornings, especially if I'm running behind, but I have to just quit being lazy about it.

Im not a make up wearing type gal. Wash, moisturize and go. Even when I worked in an office, no make up so the few days I felt like doll'ing up or had an after work social event I'd put it on at the end of the day and people would do a double take. I don't think make up breaks the bank...you can find very affordable drug store brands that seem to d the same job as dept store brands.

Maybe to help your budget, do the bare minimum and then use a tinted chapstick/lipbalm/gloss?

Considering how I can usually get it for practically nothing with the sales, coupons, and EBs, I wouldn't be saving very much anyway. But even if I didn't get it so cheap, I would still buy it. I've always been fascinated by make-up, and the transformation it makes. There is a beauty program that's out there for women who have lost their hair due to chemo. It's funded by Olay, and a small team of beauticians and make-up artists show woman how to apply make-up to make it look like you have brows and lashes, and to just feel pretty. It's also a great opportunity to share the time with others going thru the same thing. It sure beats the chemo room. They also show skin care techniques, because chemo can do a number on your facial skin. The ladies get to go home with about $150 worth of Olay products, and I've read where they just love it. I'd love to be a part of one of those teams, and help women feel good about themselves. It's very sad to lose your hair, brows, and lashes. After 3 years, I still don't have many lashes. And even though we all know it's only ~vanity~, I still think it's wonderful. I never got to go, but I always wished I would have. AND I'm getting a little OT here (as usual :))

So anyway, I do know I feel alot better about myself when I have make-up on. It's a splurge for me.....and not just the make-up itself, but the "me time" I take for putting it together. I'm usually at home during the day, but I always "fix" myself about 15 minutes before my hubby walks in. I watched my own mom do that, and I'm sure my father loved her for it, and I think my own hubby feels the same way. ;) (at least i like to think so)

Just my own (MUCH too long) opinion!

Theresa :)

btw, if you happen to know someone who's going thru chemo, please mention the olay program to them.

I stopped wearing make up several years ago. One reason was to save money.

I was given some clinique for a present after I stopped buying it. I tried wearing make up again. Found myself feeling strange and self conscious wearing it.

How do you mix your own powder? I have extremely oily skin and have a heard time with powder?
I will buy one package of loose powder in an extremely dark shade. I will then put some corn starch in an empty container and add a little bit of the colored powder. I started doing this because my skin it too light for most shades and HAD to mix my own. It then evolved into a $$ saving event. My skin does so much better with cornstarch too.

I only wear it if I am going out to say an appointment or one of the kids schools for a meeting. Rarely any other time. I wore it everyday when I worked. I buy mine at the dollar store and it lasts forever . I usually throw away the mascara long before its all gone because its to old and they usually have name brand makeup at the store I go to . I only wear powder blush and mascara. Occasionally some eyeliner. Never eyeshadow and lipstick makes me feel like I look like a clown so just lip balm.

No, that's one area where I won't cut back. I love and feel like I need makeup. At my age I need all the help I can get! But I don't spend very much money on it. Putting my makeup on is just part of my daily routine, like taking a shower and doing my hair.
