Does anyone cut back on makeup or not wear any to save money?

Is it worth it? I work in an office and feel like I should wear makeup yet when I do purchase makeup (from the drugstore and usually pretty cheap) i feel like I am wasting money

I used to wear foundation, concealer, powder, blush, eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipliner, lipstick & lipgloss when I go out (to office & stores, weekdays & weekends); even adding mascara when going to parties.
About 5 years ago, I started to cut back, started off that I couldn't find a right shade of foundation & powder for me (even using Prescription - they custom mix the shade), wasting too much money on those 2 items. I was so frustrated that I decided not to use those. Gradually, phase out blush & eyeshadow for everyday wear.
Nowadays, I concentrate more on skin care (cleansing & moisturizer). I use night cream & day cream w/ spf 40. When going out, just eyeliner & lipstick. I don't use mascara anymore.
My facial skin is much than before & I am not wasting money on too much makeup. But I would not give up lipstick, the right shade of lipstick makes a lot of difference.

Lori, since you have oily skin, if you like, you can skip the foundation first, just using powder on top of moisturizer, gradually use less or lighter shade of eyeshadow & other makeup.

I don't wear make-up.

The last 2 times I wore make-up were my wedding 5 years ago and a wedding I was a bridesmaid in 4 years ago.

I don't trust the ingredients that are in the make-ups on my face. ;)
I wear make up to work (concealer, powder, blush and mascara). I add eyeshadow, eyeliner and lipgloss for special events. I do love to give my skin a break on weekends. I usually buy on sale. And no more than twice a year. I don't consider it a splurge because it makes me feel good about myself and I feel it's appropriate for my job.
Is there a store near you that sells e.l.f. makeup? It's great quality, and most items are $1.

There are also brands at Walmart that are super-cheap, but good. (IMO) I'm thinking of NYC. Drugstores also carry Wet & Wild which is very low priced. I use all of these now, and makeup lasts so long, it doesn't feel like I'm shelling out a lot.

I go au naturelle at home, but I do need a bit of makeup to 'meet my public'. LOL! ;)
At home I don't wear makeup - but when going out, for any reason - I use - moisturizer with sunscreen, eyebrow pencil, masacra and lipstick/gloss. In the winter with lighter skin, I will use some sort of base - and I add moisturizer to the base so it is light and not heavy.
Nope, I could be living in a cardboard box and I'd still find money to buy makeup...I'd be a scary sight without it!;) Ok, so maybe not but I think it is fun to wear. I am always experimenting with different colors etc. Like previous posters I am a BE user and I only use olive oil as a night time moisturizer.
I purchase makeup only when it's necessary. Most of the time, I buy some items when they're ready to expire. That way, I don't feel I'm wasting money.
i wear it (not always) and i do splurge!

i wash w/ cetaphil and use garnier undereye cream, then Purpose facial moisturizer w/ spf in it, then laura mercier mineral primer, clinique all about eyes cream, then YSL eye brightener, i use target brand vanilla under the brow bone and smashbox nude on the lid and clinique super glossy mascara. if going out, i add some eye shadow that i apply w/ a damp brush as eyeliner (i use cliniqe or an almay grayish color...just depends) i use clinique all about lips, sephora brand nude lip liner and sephora brand lipstick which is a nudish/pinkish color.

now, i dont do all of this every day. but, sometimes it just makes ya feel better! imo

and i wouldnt cut it out to save money. gotta live sometimes!

i also use aveda facial toner.
Never! Ok, pop up says that's too short-this should do it..
When at home I keep the makeup off. I do wear mascara and sometimes lipstick and neutral eyeshadow. I stay away from the foundations. Although I do have some powder foundations that help to hide breakouts.

My skin is sensitive and I worry about using foundations. I do keep my brushes clean because of this.

I think it depends on what you feel comfortable with.
I am a hairdresser, and working in the beauty industry, it's kind of a requirement of the job to wear at least a little make up. So on work days yes I wear quite a bit of make up...on my days off, not so much....I do wear a little foundation and mascara and lipgloss to church...but mostly only to work I wear make up. I buy the brands that work for me...I am always trying new things from expensive to cheap...some cheap stuff works for me...and some doesn't....it's all about experimentation.
I've cut back only in the price of the products, not makeup itself. I don't feel like it's a waste of money to put my best face forward, for me that's priceless. I can't ever imagine a world with no makeup, perish the thought. Gives me shivers~

I have however, HAD to cut the cost, or do without, and as we already established above, I won't do without. So Makeup clearances combined with coupons have been a life saver. I've been able to get many items for nothing or near nothing. The other resource has been from Avon. They have these lip balms that are called slick tints (I think) They are tinted lip balms that go on like lipstick. I wait till they go on sale for 69 cents and pick up a few.
I'm strictly wash 'n go. I don't like the feel of makeup on my face, and eye makeup just makes me want to close my eyes.
And I save a lot of money there, but nail polish probably cancels some of the savings!
I've always worn make up for the last 10-15 years. I've recently had some pretty severe rashes on my face, allergies. Each time I put on foundation I was aggravating the rash. I had to quit putting it on and go to my office job without make up, which I had NEVER done before. I almost cried the first couple of days I hated it, felt like I was going undressed. Weird thing is nobody noticed. They'd all been seeing this ugly red rash I couldn't cover up anyway. It would flare up every few weeks and stick around for days.
So I've kept the make up off. Its a huge adjustment and I still don't feel so confident without foundation but I'm so scared of causing my allergies to come back I'm going without.
You know what though? Now that I'm not clogging my pores without make up during the day my skin has a lovely texture, its so smooth and it has a nice glow and is less oily. I thought I took good care of my skin before, always cleansed toned and exfoliated once a week, made sure I removed every trace of make up. Now I've been avoiding anything that may trigger allergies and I've only been applying Aveeno moisturising lotion because it was the only thing helping my rash and my skin looks great. I keep running my hands over my cheeks because it feels so soft and smooth. Never thought I'd be converted to no make up!!

i wouldnt - i look pale and hald dead without make up in the winter . my patients would be afraid to let me near them lol

but i dont wear tons.

i use drug store brand ( maybe cover girl or loreal - ) cream foundation in a compact i put on very kightly - mascara and blush - with CVS extra care bicks deals and buy 1 get 1 free combined with coupons you can get make up very cheaply .

sometimes if theres a deal for a free lipstick ( which i dont wear ) i get a color that is a good blush color for me and use it as a cream blush- .

i dont think i spend more than 3-4 $ a month on make up when you figure most things can last me 3 -6 months or more .

alot depends on how you are supposed to look at work - if you work in the back area no one sees you dont work etc you may get away with none - but certain people are expected to present themselves in certain ways and no make up or too much make up even can really change how that would be percieved and affect your ability to move up etc in your job .

looking your best to me is not a waste of money .

Im not a make up wearing type gal. Wash, moisturize and go.
This is me. funny though I wore make up for the first time in probably over a year yesterday. My boss invited his immediate staff to a very nice brunch and well I just felt like it.

I'm 41 and I'm the secretary to the president and I NEVER wear makeup to work. NEVER!

I have several reasons for not wearing makeup first on the list is I hate the way it feels and smells. two is I'm really not confident in applying it so I don't feel comfortable when I do wear it and three is cost.

Last spring I had a first date, sort of a blind date and I did brush on a little powder and mascara but that was it. Funny thing was that my date commented on it and liked the fact that I didn't wear makeup. Less is definitely more in my opinion.
I stopped wearing makeup because of skin/nose sensitivity. If I buy it, I frequently don't use it fast enough to use it up in 90 days, so I have to pitch it. The cheap stuff makes my skin crawl/itch and the perfumes make my nose go nuts.

So, if I can find it, I get tinted moisterizer. Accomplishes the same thing, costs a good deal less, frequently. I do buy Revlon Color Stay lipstick and use it, when I have to have to have lipstick, but even that is begining to make my nose go, so I'll do what I do in the summer, and that is, find a lip pencil (unscented!) that is the color I want my lips to be and use it for both blush and lip color. Cover with moisturizer and lip gloss or vaseline. btw, vaseline (get a NEW container JUST for this) lightly put on your eyelashes will make them darker, a lot of what mascara does, no perfumes, no fancy brush, no high ticket price tag either.

I was a theater make up major for a few years in college. What you need in make up is: highlight/lowlight, color (usually red/peach), gloss, and cover, and other color if you want eye shadow.

I have white, brown, and gold hypoallergenic eye shadows I use for the highlight/lowlight, and eyeshadow parts. I use lip gloss or vaseline for the gloss part (used to use the gloss part of the Revlon Color Stay), and whatever tinted moisturizer I'm using at the moment. Frequently, I use a lip pencil to color a little of the moisturizer for blush color (sometimes this does NOT work!).

IHTH!

I like the idea of a cream foundation because it works well as a concealer too. Do you know the name of the one you use? I may check out and see if it will work applied sparingly to oily skin. Thanks
I need a little glamour in my day and the amount I'd save by not wearing make-up isn't significant enough to bother with it as a cost cutting measure.

I've always worn drugstore brands bought BOGO with a coupon. I don't have that luxury here in Denmark, but I stocked up before I moved and should have enough to keep me until I visit the US.

I don't really see how not wearing make-up saves much money, assuming it's bought BOGO with a coupon. One container/tube/bottle lasts forever.
Not as a cost cutting measure but out of laziness when I am at home! LOL
I work remotely from my home office so I often do not wear any during the week. But if I am leaving the house to go shopping or anyplace else, I do wear makeup. Seldom eye shadow/mascara due to allergies but if I dont use a foundation, blush and lip color I could scare away small children
