Spacifically beaded bracelets. I was at Hobby Lobby the other day and was thinking I'd like to try the for Christmas gifts this year. I looked around and it was a little overwhelming. There is nowhere to take classes here and was wondering if it is hard. Is it worth the time and $$ involved? I thought it looked really relaxing but had no idea where to begin. any help would be appreciated. Marcia

I thought about taking apart broken jewellery and bits you find at car boot sales to make other things mostly really embellishing something already made (am I making sense?) I love really over the top jewellery.

I make simple ankle bracelts. I spend 3.00 on one at a fair last year and have made my own since!!!

here's some info, might not be exactly what you are looking for, but maybe some inspiration for making one. I d a little bit of beading. I never took a calss, i just took apart some of my jewlery and put it back together again to see how they were done. And then i gathered jewlery bits together and tried to do it on my own. It is fun, but really time consuming and tedious, but the end result is great.

this is a mothers bracelet we were looking at here and I took a stab at making. I like the end result a lot.

I always pick up broken or cheap beaded jewelry at yard sales,goodwill etc. to bring home to my 15 yr. old DD who beads. We got her some string at Wallyworld and some elastic and she goes like mad.... I have also found clearance beads at Big Lots.

I've done some seed bead jewelry (Native American type) and some soft jewelry for my dd and her friends- meaning, jewlery I've made on the sewing machine or crocheted.

ThanKs all for the fast responses. Melissa, the one you made is kind of what I was wanting to do. I think the name of the ones I want to do are call stone beads. but that will work. How do you put the clasps onm the end with out a bunch of knots showing? These are the type of questions I have.

i did tie knots at the end and simply threaded the ends of the thread back under the beads to hide the ends of the threads. and i dotted the knots with a beading glue and slid a bead over the knot. that way the knot is reinforced, and hidden and still allows the rest of the beads to move slightly. I made sure to tie the end of the thread to the clasp as close as i could to the beads.

there are all kinds of beads out there, and all kinds of books full of instructions and ideas...i like to use catalogs (jelwlery cataglogs or sears type catalogs- jewlery section) for inspiration too. Or if i see one on a friend i try to remember it as best as i can and try to take notes about it on a pad of paper i keep on me all the time.

look in the book and magazine section of the crafts stores and don't forget to check the library too. i used to to beading in high school and all i did was use the booklets you can get at the craft store to teach myself.

Well guess I came here rather late seeing the date of the posts, but I have developed a great urge to learn about the art of jewelry making since I got to see some of the masterpiece creations. But am not quite sure where I should approach for this, any ideas would be most appreciated.

Check out the website anniesattic.com. I visited the site a few weeks ago and signed up for a trial membership for some of the magazines -- one of them was for beading. Haven't taken a really good look at it as far as how hard they are, but some of the projects looked cute. I don't think I'd have the patience to do beading. A friend's daughter does beading and makes some really cute stuff.
