Definately dollar general as they coupon and have better quality. And staff here.
I find the Family dollar targets $30,000 income and lower (per their website) and the stuff is junky. Oh,I used to get 2L coke for a dollar on sale last year. Also 90% off after the holiday on christmas.
Family Dollar is within walking distance. I like going there for things like personal care products, cleaning products, their neosporin. Also will pick up canned salmon there when it is on sale. Usually the cheapest price around. I have picked up anchor casserole dishes there. They are also good for cards, pencils, pens, or wrapping paper. Also found hairpieces for my cat to wear there for cheap. Fortunately she still has her hair and doesn't wear them all the time. lol
I just look at family dollar as an old five and dime store. Without a car it is easy for me to get to if I need to pick something up inexpensively. Purchased screen traps that you put in your sink drain. They work great and have been using the same one for about two years. Oh, when I first started the seriously frugal journey they sold canning jars there. Pretty much the cheapest around and still have the jars. Not for canning but storing. Their mouthwash also seems to be the cheapest and best buy around here.
I have never seen either of these stores anywhere and only have heard about them on frugal village. Dollar tree is the big one here. I can't say it is a favorite store of mine but I go there occasionally. 2 for $1 cards are hard to beat.
