Love this site.

About 1/3 of what I planted this year is from seed I saved from last year. Also, I was very happy when I successfully got bell peppers from the seeds of a grocery store bell pepper I bought last year! I planted about four of the saved seeds, and two sprouted. I now have about six bell peppers, each about half the size of the grocery store pepper (but still growing a bit). So, I think I came out ahead on that one! Peppers are perennial, so I can bring those plants in for the winter and probably harvest again for the next couple of years.

There are also such seed banks in Germany. One is state owned and several are privately owned.
These old notes are usually better adapted to the local climate.
I love strains like that. In addition, the biodiversity is preserved by cultivating the old varieties.
This year I have an old kale variety, green beans, and several old tomato varieties.
