DOUBLE CHOCOLATE BROWNIES
***AWESOME AND VERY RICH -- FOR THE TRUE CHOC-O-HOLIC***
3/4 cup cocoa
1/2 tsp baking soda
2/3 cup butter or margarine, melted and divided
1/2 cup boiling water
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1-1/3 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp salt
1 bag (12 oz) chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts -- pecans or walnuts (opt.)
In a large bowl, combine cocoa and baking soda. Blend in 1/3 cup melted butter. Add boiling water, stir until well blended. Stir in sugar, eggs, and remaining butter. Add flour, vanilla, and salt. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Pour into a greased 13x9x2-inch pan and bake at 350F for 35-40 minutes, or until brownie starts to pull away from sides of pan. Cool, cut into squares.
I made these last week... roomies ate every crumb in the pan. They were very, very rich and sweet. Next time I might try and reduce sugar to 1-1/2 or 1-3/4.
