what type do you collect? Or is it not anything specific and just any cookbook that you happen to like? Do you only buy cheap cookbooks at garage sales or do you pay good money for the cookbooks you want?

I'm considering starting a collection. I've pared things down so much that I am seriously considering adding some new things here, but I want to be selective. I have bookshelves, but have decided to be picky about what books are on them. I'd love to collect some cookbooks for starters.

I'm going to go window shop on ebay and see what types seem to interest me.

I like OLD cookbooks because they use real foods. Most of the cookbooks nowadays seem to refer you to some name brand redi made stuff or mixes. I do not buy any new cookbooks at all. My favorite cookbooks are old English ones and old baking ones. You wouldn't believe some of the bread and roll recipes I have from the late 1800's. I typically go to estate sales to get my cookbooks and also old patterns (sewing) and craft magazines.

I like Kimmee love the OLD cookbooks. I do however have a few of the newer ones. It depends on what I like in the book, so if I only like a few recipes in the book then I usually do not buy it. I do but one that support local cahrities, churches, schools etc.. I generally give them as gifts.

I love old cookbooks also, community service projects ones and fun specialty cookbooks. I have a huge collection and am slowly weeding out quite a bit of them that used mainly processed foods.

I like the old fashioned cookbooks, Dh's grandmother's cookbook, Better Homes and Gardens classic red cookbook and the ones I've aquired from winning Amazon.com Gift Certificates at another message board I frequent. Dh like the famous chef's so I've gotten him some Bobby Flay and Lidia's. She has some great recipes we've tried and one day we'll go to her restaraunt.

I like to get my cookbooks wherever I find them, lately I've bought a few at that place that Lauren Bacall promotes, they are very reasonable in price. (for the life of me I can't remember the name of the store).

I like the old fashioned ones too...no tofu recipes or TVP in there!

I only have 1 *real* cookbook, but I'd love to find an old Betty Crocker cookbook like my mom had when I was growing up - it was a three ring binder type & I taught myself to cook from it!

Thats the one I have, debbie, it was my mom's from the 50's - its in pretty bad shape but if you ever need a recipe from it ...

I prefer older ones, too. Specifically those from the Great Depression and WWII eras. Rationing cookbooks are my all time favs, though. Lots of good ideas, simple ingredients, and a great deal of them are one pot meals for the working woman with a family. Just wonderful.

The Junior League cookbooks are always good! I have several in my collection. I have close to 80 cookbooks but I didn't pay full price for most of them. Most of them I find at my favorite thrift store for 25 cents paperback and 50 cents hardback. I'm wanting the La Leche Legue cookbook but lost out on Ebay. I'm hoping it will turn up at the thrift shop one day.

WWII and the Great Depression as well. I have many others though that I have picked up at garage sales, library book sales and thrift stores. I usually get one each year as a gift as well.
