This form brings to mind how nice it is to have the right to freedom of speech.
To be able to have your opinions voiced and be able to listen to the views of others. It doesn't mean we all agree, but it does mean we all have the chance to say how we feel about things. I am thankful we have this right!

Here is my question;
Do you feel there is ever a reason for Government to put restrictions on freedom of speech?

I agree with laws that criminalize using speech fraudulently. This can mean shouting "FIRE" in a crowded theater, or causing real damage to a person's reputation or means by slander or libel.

The freedom to speak your mind is not a license to use speech to cause harm to others, after all.

Beyond that which is necessary to protect others from harm (a line which must be drawn very VERY carefully), no Government restriction on our freedom to state our opinions on any subject can be tolerated.

...and yet, there are. Teachers are actually quite restricted with regards to freedom of speech, and yet students are not.

I agree, with everything you've said, though, Greebo.

Government paid teachers are restricted, yes, but such a restriction is a condition of their employment.

Employers, even the Government, have every right to tell you what speech is and is not acceptable while they are paying you to work for them. Off the clock, and speaking as themselves, and not as a teacher or other Government employee, an individual is (or should be) free to speak on any subject they wish.

And for that matter, as private property owners, Sara and Gabe have every right to restrict our speech to any subject they so choose. This forum is, ultimately, private property, and we are only guests, after all.
