I have the lids to some huge containers that I use for planting potatoes. I don't have any idea what to do with all these lids. I want to use them for something. So....I was wondering if I can grow something in the lids. Maybe a few drainage holes?? I can put some soil in the lid and possibly grow??????? Any suggestions?
Or do you have any ideas what I can use the lids for?
Thanks in advance

what does it look like? How deep? More info would be helpful......

Some plant with a shallow root system should work........am sure there are some herbs that would work......

I haven't seen too many lids that were deep enough for gardening the major plants.......but maybe........

You could try lettuce.. Thats the only thing to come to mind to me. Anything with a shallow root system--and definately do the drain holes.

If you're talking about sprouts like bean sprouts or alfalfa sprouts, those are not grown in dirt. They're sprouted in a jar if they're supposed to be green, like alfalfa sprouts, or in a container that won't let in light in the case of bean sprouts.

Things I have used tote lids for:

to catch dirt under pots while I am filling the pots with dirt. Rather than letting the good dirt just spill over, this way I can tip the lid and pour it into the next pot.

Underneath large house plant pots to catch drainage beyond what their saucer may be able to catch.

As place mats under the dog water dish for when they slop, it catches better than a placemat.

As a tray for our shoes when come in the door. Particularly useful in sloppy, wet weather.

great ideas!! Thank you so much!! I don't know why I didn't think of these ideas. I just kept thinking it had to be for gardening. Well, I can use them under some pots while filling. Awesome!
thanks again!
