evidently I have been blessed with it! yuck!

so I did what the doctor told me to do until I can get to the diabetic clinic. STOP EATING SUGAR she said. ok. well thats pretty broad. but do able I think. then I got the call from the clinic booking me in for appt. they won't see me until MID freakin JULY!!! umm that will almost defeat the purpose.

so I have done a ton of research and stuff. come up with menus and recipes.

then yesterday I went into shock. had the shakes and chills, and headache and dizzy. called the health link (you can call the health nurses for advice) and she called an ambulance.

I had gone into shock from withdrawl of too much sugar too fast. they were not too happy with what I had been told, which is NOTHINg. Spent the night in the womens specialty (thank goodness I didn't have to stay in the ER) with glucose iv and trying to get my body back on track.

they also are not sure if I am diabetic. my blood sugar was right on, but they did more tests and have put a rush on one other I did this weekend to see if it was an anomaly that made my results funny the first time.

now I am home on strict be queit and behave orders....

oh gosh, hope you are feeling better. I hope it isnt gestational diabetes, DH is diabetic and injects several times a day. It seems crazy of your dr not to give you any real advice or that your appointment was for so far away!

thats ridiculous that your doctor didn't give you any info. gestational diabetes is very important that you take care of yourself, but they need to inform you of what to do & what not to do!!! i hope you feel better....and take care of yourself & your bundle of joy!!

sorry to hear that. i too wasn't given any info. it wasn't until my son was born that i was told i had ges. diabetes. i took the test and was told it was negative... but anyway, my son was put on an iv for the first few days and i couldn't see him until late that night (he was born at 11 in the morning) because they were doing so many tests on him. he turned out ok, but i learned to ask MANY MANY questions about EVERYTHING. as a first time mom i didn't know anything or what to expect, i just expected the dr's to let me know what was going on. i wont assume anything ever again.

My Gestational Diabetes was diagnosed at the same time as my official pregnancy test... due to some other health problems, they knew I'd be high risk for it, so they tested me immediately instead of waiting until the regular test time.

Basically, I've had to eliminate most of the refined sugar (regular soda, cake, cookies, etc) and the carbs-- carbs are actually harder for me to watch than sugar. I'll eat a big baked potato, which is logically a healthy choice, but it spikes my blood sugar. I still have trouble judging portions on some carbs.

I test my blood sugar four times a day and see my Endocrinologist (diabetes doctor) once a month. I'm also on oral medication.

I can't believe your doctor didn't give you better information-- that's crazy. I hope you get things straightened out soon-- good luck!

You poor girl that is rough.

My DD had it with both of her babies, worse with the second, she had to test her levels several times a day and wrote down everything she ate in order too keep it under control enough to avoid having to take the shots.

thanks all...

well I called my FAMILY doctor this morning and he wanted to see me. so in I went. he the mild mannered doctor was PISSED! wow! I've been seeing him for over 10 years and never have I seen him that riled!!

I am seriously considering finding another OB to take over. it was a hunt for this one as none are taking anymore deliveries in August. grumble grumble....

but....on another note.

my doctor had gotten the results from the 75g test (fast then blood taken, drink the orange stuff wait an hour, blood taken, wait another hour and more blood is taken). I took that on sunday so the results just came in today to my doc (forwarded to the OB - but since she's on vacation til the end of july.....)

I AM NOT DIABETIC!

there was some kind of anomaly with my first initial test. must have had a high blood sugar level then. but the results from the real indicator were NORMAL!!!

I felt that enormous weight lifted off my shoulders! he even gave me a copy of the results! did my blood pressure which was normal, and all the rest of that. baby is looking good. moving LOTS.

so there we go.

all that for nothing! I feel like I have been through the ringer the past few days!!

Sorry to hear about your ordeal, but I'm glad to know that you're doing better and don't have diebetes! I'm going to have my test next week - I'm low risk but have my fingers crossed.

yeah its a huge hassle! all that worry and stress and making my self sick for something that wasnt even wrong!!

I have since fired my OB. boy that felt AWESOME!! but then I saw her for that one appointment then she went on vacation for 8 weeks....so I wouldn't have seen her again until delivery. so its no big loss. I am just going to my family doc until I need to get to the delivery.

and from the way i have been feeling its going to be sooner than later!!
