We need to get birthday gifts for 7 year olds, one female and one male. What do kids these days like? Any suggestions.
I am at a loss. I looked at the local zoo for tix, but they do not offer gift tickets, only memberships for $125, which is a bit much for one child.
Thanks for any suggestions you can provide.

I'm a fan of the gift cards/certificates b/c though you're sort of limiting where it can be redeemed, the recipient still gets a choice in how they use it.

Local theme parks, movie theatres, book store, toy store. Is there a special children's exhibit going on at the museum? Circus coming to town?

Lego sets
Craft kits from Hobby Lobby/Michael's/A.C. Moore
Large sketch pad with colored pencils, paints and/or markers
For girl - nail polish set (nail pens and nail polishes from Claire's)
Pillow Pets - even my dogs, 19 year old DD and 16 year old DS love them
For boy - monster trucks, Matchbox cars, race tracks

I have to agree with the Pillow Pets, atleast for the girl. My DD and all of her friends love theirs and they are 11 and older! As for the boy, my son loved those super soaker water guns at that age. Even I thought they were cool, if I wasn't the one being sprayed.

I've been giving gift cards when the kids go to parties. Visa or Amex gift cards, so they can be redeemed anywhere. I'd rather they use the gift card and get something that they want, as opposed to me giving them something that may sit in a closet for years until it is regifted or thrown away.
