Hi!

I don't know if some of you remember how we have problems with our 3rd son in school and at home? Well, I wanted to let you know that we are going to a pediatrician specialist in behavioural problems for my son, Daniel. We have waited 4 months for this appointement.

Yesterday, I met the school psychologist and with the tests she gave him, she concluded that his verbal intellect is inferior to the average children. What this means is that he does not always *hear* what the teachers say or what we say, unless it is very it is explained visually or with objects. Verbal instructions for him are abstract. It doesn't get through. That's why he has so much trouble in school.

He also behavioural problems...he is very rebel. Now the dr will see with the 3 tests and meeting him and his history what *exactly* he has. They told me that maybe he will be taking Ritalin. I have never been happy about meds, but it could save him from going to the special school for behavioural problems.

Well, all I can say is that I am very scared of the futur. but the pyschologist said we are just in time to help him be better. He is 10 yrs. old. It's not too late, she said. I hope. I 'm worried.

I'll tell you how it went.

Thanks everyone for your support! What would I do without you? :hugz:

Well, we saw the dr and he has come to the conclusion that Daniel does have some lack on concentration, but his main and biggest problem, is that he has an aggressive oppositional behavioural problem. So he highly recommends a very guided therapy for him. He won't be needing Ritalin. He was definative about that.

So....we will be referred to a special therapist for this. I, for my part have decided also go see my old therapist...all this is too much for me and I have been very discouraged about Daniel, my family life in general and my aunt. I really need to talk about this to someone...

We will be working hard again(as if the last 7 years I haven't  ) to help Daniel and pray that he will become a happy and calm boy, one day.....You know, he said he didn't mind we talk about all this to the dr with him there. He *really wants* to change and be happy, but says he does not know how to stop what he always does(not listen, not work, hit, fight) I believe him. I know he wants to be happy. I will do everything I can to make it happen.

Again, thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. I feel less alone with all of you.:grouphug:

I'm glad the doctor has something other than meds he wants to try. Not that meds are a bad thing. Good for you too Lucie for wanting someone to talk with about everything. You are a smart, stong, caring woman. You all have a lot on your plate but with your whole family working together you guys will find your way. Big hug to you all.:heartsm:

Thank-you CJ. :heartsm: No, I haven't found a place for her yet. Actually, it is her special educator who is doing that for me. I'm signing papers next wedsday. He told me it can take up to 6 months! And we are on the emergency list! Can you believe this?! I told him, I could not wait so long...I said I would not be able to make it. I told him, very strongly, that if it does take so long, they will have to give me money to pay for longer respites for her. She goes away twice a month on week-ends to give me a break, but that's not enough anymore. I'm too tired. I need her to go longer periods.

So that's how it's going with my aunt. Thank-you for asking, CJ. I'm a bit relieved though...she has been very nice and calmer the last few days. She should be going away for 5 days next thursday at my parents' house, if my dad is well.(His right toe is infected and his leg swollen. He is diabetic.) He might need surgery...

:hugz: to you, too CJ.

Lucie, I am sending prayers and big :hugz:. I understand what you are going through with the oppositional behaviour problem. My oldest son was diagnosed oppositional defiant disorder at age 13 and we had a hard road with him. I am pming you address a site that saved my sanity when he was first diagnosed. I hope it helps.
