I make homemade macaroni and cheese on Halloween. My grandma always made it on Halloween along with a pot of homemade chili...nothing like delicious, hot comfort food before or after trick-or-treating. And I like to make either popcorn balls or candied apples too When I was young, sitting at my grandma's kitchen counter eating mac & cheese and chili--wearing a costume--felt like the kickoff to the Holiday season
For as long as I can remember (when I was little) my family always had chili, apple cider and doughnuts. It was always a big deal. The tradition we added for ourselves was dh takes kids out with other fathers while I hand out candy.
Ha! do you ever remember any grownups going TOTing when you were growing up?
