My wonderful (and brave) husband is out teaching our 3 sons (ages 15, 13 and 13) how to drive! I made him take the old beater car (named it ICK) because it is a stick shift, is ugly and if they wreck the van we are in deep trouble since it's the only vehicle we all fit into! LOL! So..they are learning in our 1986 Ford Escort GT that still runs really well, but is in serious need of some body work and a paint job. We told the boys that is the car that they will be driving when they are able to, so wreck it and you're out of luck.

(praying here for safety for my family and for anyone else on the road):toothy:

I am hiding...lol! I know how you feel. I have been letting my 14 year old drive and he scares me to death. I still can't get him to slow down more on those corners. SCARY!!! I think my DH would be better at teaching them too because my nerves can't handle it.

I hope they all come back safely.

How funny that you posted this! I took dd yesterday to the community college and let her drive for the first time in the parking lot. I didnt know whether to laugh or cry. I was very nervous, because she is not on my insurance and I have had some very bad luck lately. She will be 18 on June 15th and just got accepted to a university for goodness sake. Does it show that I am an overprotective mom, LOL, I dont know who I am protecting tho, her or me!

All the while she was making loops and stopping too hard on the brakes, I just kept wishing dh would teach her, but forget it! He has no patience and she will be scarred for life, after all she is my little baby (still)

Hope your dh and boys fare well, have faith in all of them.

So Debbie, are you going to give the boys lessons too? Dh & I both do the teaching. The kids hate it when I grab the dashboard or inhale deeply, lol. Dd has had her license for over a year and is a pretty safe driver. We are in the process of teaching our 161/2 yr old ds. He is a little to carefree free with his driving habits and it will definately take longer for him to get his license. I bet we'll also have him take a few driving classes with a driving school. No rush as the price of insurance is going to be out of this world. Your gonna have to take a second morgage to pay for 3 boys insurance costs:yikes: Don't envy you that Debbie.

LOL That will put her mind at ease, Darlene. WTG!

I didn't drive till I was 17... and then it was on the way home form my premit test. I didn't want my license. My mom had to trick me to get me to go driving. She'd get home from town and say she forgot milk and make me go get it and stuff. Sneaky! I'm glad she did though! I enjoy my freedom... I'd hate to have to depend on someone to drive me everywhere I needed to go.

NY insurance for boys is probably one of the highest in the US.:( Hopefully it's lower where you are Debbie. :)

I didn't drive till I was 28?. I was a big fraidy cat. Now I can't imagine being dependent on others to haul me around. Now I zoom here & there.Still stay home during the winter if snow is predicted.

I didn't get my license 'til I was 20...big chicken! Oh, but when I did, I bought a 68 nova...sigh...mint! It was gorgeous and I drove her everywhere! Then one day a pot hole killed her...blew out the back passenger fender wall, shock and tire....didn't have the money to fix her so off to car heaven she went.

My first car...1987...OMG I 'm get'n OLD!

Good luck with your boys!

P.S. I know of an ALL terrain, all the conveniences of home, mobile out-house that is up for grabs! LOL That's if the boys don't mind the "lay-en hen" on top of the roof!
