Just wondering if anybody'd be interested in a thread for those purchases that we know were not necessary and at the time, we knew we shouldn't give in and buy them ... and yet we did it anyways?

I was thinking that maybe a thread like this, if we were accoutable to each other - that it might make us stop and think before we bought those items.

Example, yesterday was supposed to be a "no spend" day for me and I really intended it to be, but ...

I had to return a remote that didn't work with my TV and when I was there, I bought 2 candy bars which were totally not necessary.

Then a friend wanted me to run to the store for him and I saw a cute lighter and of course, I bought it. :(

Yes, the total spent was only around $3.00 but still - that 3 dollars could have either went into my change jar or into my EF fund.

Anybody else wanna participate and be accountable?

Love,

Jennelle

I will do it. I can't post anything yet as I haven't left the house today, I'm working from home. ;-)

However, I need to keep better track of the little things that add up.

Yesterday I spent $5 I really didn't have to spend on new shells for my hermies.

While it is true that they REALLY need new shells I don't think their health was in danger if I had waited 2 weeks.

Now I find I have one more serving of catfood for the cats. That $5 would have been spent better on the cat food.

Monday is payday and it can't come to fast for me--it is all budgeted out but I can get some food in this house and some cat and dog food!

This is a good idea especially if we look at it BEFORE we leave the house!

I like the idea of this thread too...

DF and I both had to buy gas today. He also went to lunch w/ his best friend. But that's okay b/c it's in the budget, and he hasn't gone to lunch with this guy all month.

That about does it for our April budget, except for $10.00 grocery money left. We came in nicely under the gas allowance. Hopefully it'll be a no-spend weekend for us.

Okay I did spend $18.00 out of my business checkbook for shipping 2 Ebay packages but the customers PAID me for that shipping and I had it figures correctly so it doesn't count.

No money will be spent today by me. My car is parked for the day.

I guess I'm in lol I try writing down all my unnecessary expenses as well as necessary but maybe if I admit it out in the open I'll be less likely to overspend... I'm really awful about buying things I like. I don't have problem like some people do with eating out but I totally am bad in the unnecessary purchases department.

For instance today I just bought a moisturizer on ebay for like 21 dollars (but I did use some of my free Pinecone money) towards that which I've been wanting to try for awhile because the ingredients looked good quality. Just a few days before I did buy some figurines of mermaids and faeries (I have a habit of collecting figurines) to the sum of 67.47 but I did use some Pinecone money. I also bought a duvet cover on overstock for my down blanket I also bought from them for 56.94. And some shoes and a bag from wilsons leather for the sum of 77.51. Does anyone have any tips on not spending? I always think ok I'll spend less next month or I tell myself I need a good quality cover for long usage or I tell myself I should get it before it runs out or if it's on a sale or that I just won't spend as much next month which just about never happens. I'm just so horrible about it. I don't get myself into debt and I always pay off my credit card in full at the end of the month, however I do want to save more. I know I could be saving so much more if I didn't purchase so much. I just recently started writing everything down and it's a big eye opener as I could instead be saving an extra 300 a month instead of spending it. Just today I was also contemplating buying this makeup bag for like $68 because I thought it looked really cute. Crazy I know but nonetheless I'm still considering it :p

I also want to add that none of those who posted should feel bad at all about what they spent! I wish I felt bad about spending the amount some of you spend.

Welkl because of this painfull hole I have in my mouth after biopsy today, I went to town looking for some kind of liquid pain relief. I was to scared to even try and swallow a pill, so I spent $1.99 on a 6 adult dose chewable tylenol, they made me gag and still hurt swallowing. I then spent an additional $25 on soft foods, hoping to find some thing I can swallow and not spend 10 minutes in tears about it.

I am in.....did some grocery shopping and bought DD a magazine that was totally a waste! But I stuck to the grocery list in both Aldis and Walmart and worked with what I planned for the menu this week.

Then I happened to run into DH in the store and he threw a fire extingister for his boat in the cart.... I guess it is necessary but jeez.....

Took DD to specialist and ended up eating out. 17.00 for 2 of us....Should have just came home and made something.

I felt lazy today, and despite a clear menu in writing on the calendar, I had my husband order pizza & wings. There. I fessed up and I feel better.

I've been tired from working in my yard. I need to pace myself, maybe an hour or two each day for yard work. Yesterday I spent all day out there, and now today I'm so dog tired I can't run my kitchen. And it costs $$$$$ :shake:

I love this thread. Great idea!

paintedsky, you sound so much like me 'cuz if I have the money then I have a hard time in not spending it.

I have no one to be accountable but to myself and so that's been my justification.

Still - it doesn't get $ in my EF either. :(

Wish I had tips to give ya but I'm definitely not the person for that. *lol*

JustPeachy, honey - I hope your mouth is feeling better tonight.

And ... I wouldn't consider the things you bought as being non-essential 'cuz you needed to have pain relief and - you need to eat too.

I've gotta tell you though, I totally forgot that it was you that had the biopsy today and when I started reading your post on this thread and you started off with ...

"Because of this painful hole in my mouth" and when I read that, I had to laugh because I was just about to post about my caving in today and spending over $1.00 on 2 long-johns.

Why I laughed was because when I first started reading what you posted [before I got to the biopsy part], I was thinking to myself ... yep, it was that painful hole in my mouth that got me into trouble today too. *lol*

[You know, as in painful 'cuz I've been on a diet and I just had to fill it with long-johns *Giggle*]

I'm honestly NOT laughing at your pain but just had to share where my mind was when I read the first part of your post. :)

Love,

Jennelle

Don't worry about the $ we spent today gals, tomorrow is a new day and we can strive to do better, right?! :) :)

Oh, I am so up for this... today was pretty bad...

$60 for acupuncture, but it did help. My joints don't hurt and my mind is clear. I'll pay for it if it helps my health. Besides, the first $200 is covered by DH's insurance. I'll have $220 in treatments by the end of this session. So not too bad. But after that, we pay for all of them.

$2.99 for a cloth bag/zippered thingie (like a canvas portfolio bag with lots of pockets and clear vinyl see-through pockets) for my stitching gear. Holds all my hardanger stuff, but really not necessary. I've been using a regular tote bag no problem. It's just the tote bag is a bit big and awkward.

$13.95 for an 8 1/2 x 11" sketchbook, hardcover, 224 pages. About half price. I want to use it for my prayer journal. But I've been using cheaper scribblers and journals up till now. Though they are half the size and thickness, so maybe they don't work out cheaper. Either way, if I was just writing, I could use loose leaf paper in a binder. But I really need to be able to sketch and express myself that way. Maybe this is just a mental/emotional/spiritual health expense?

$7 at the cappucino bar for cheesecake and chai tea. I'd never had chai tea and decided to try it. The cheesecake was an impulse purchase of $5! I normally don't eat out by myself, but I'd been to the bank and realized we got paid early. Plus I had extra money in the various envelopes in my purse. So I decided to splurge.

Now I know what chai tea is, I'm thinking there's got to be a way to make it at home. I bought it because a lady I know claims she has a cup at night before bed to help her sleep. I'm thinking I might try it. It will be healthier for me than sleeping pills I think. Plus I'll get a little more calcium in my diet.

Yes.

Imagine the items in your next garage sale, selling for a quarter. Then put your wallet up and run.

I am working on this myself. Don't feel too bad. Just last week, I spent $70 on new undergarments, $36 on new pants/capris (which I don't even like and think I'll end up ebaying), and $17 on shoes off ebay that don't even fit me right, so I'll be re-ebaying them.

:shame:
