I've noticed increases in ins premiums seem to be a theme lately. Just out of curiousity how much is ins costing come Jan 2008?

Does your employer pay part?

Ours is going up $50 a week so about 216 a month. Total monthly cost about 378.

Employer pays 80% of the premiums

We're VERY VERY fortunate in the area of health insurance, until now the company fully covered it. It is now costing us $14.00 bi-weekly but the deductables have also gone up :( Even the best policies are getting not so good now.

Dh just started a new job last month, insurance kicks in after the 90 day probation. When it does they will pay 100%, even on me and dd (who's in college). Including dental and vision.

The pay isn't the best and at one point the hubby considered finding something else for more pay, but the benefits outweigh more pay by a bit, think he'll stay. ;)

We have insurance/dental/eye/RX through hubby's job and he doesn't pay for his, but we pay $38 a week for me, so that's $152 a month. We have three Aflac policies through his work as well. One is a cancer policy which is $16 a week, emergency room policy which is $13 a week, and disibility insurance which is $16 a week. So altogether, we pay 332.00 a month for insurance. We do have Flexible Spending too, which helps alot on medical bills.

Since 15 yr. old DD was adopted through foster care, she is covered through state medicaid until age 18, and if she goes to college, we can put her on hubby's health insurance.

I pay $656 per month for family coverage - the lowest benefit POS plan and a PPO dental offered by my employer. This is my cost. The employer kicks in a dollar amount that about 80% of the individual cost for the lowest benefit plan. We are on a plan year that will renew 5/1/08. Actually, I am bringing home less $ this year than last because my salary increase didn't even cover the increase insurance cost. I was hoping my employer would offer a HSA, but they didn't.

Where my dh works the insurance for him is payed by the company, to have me and the kids on there we pay just under $600 a month, that is for health, dental and vision. I have not heard about the insurance going up in Jan, I do know the boss was looking for a different plan because the plan they have now with the dental there are no in network dentists in our state, so it really doesn't save much money for dental work.

Yeah, we use network doctors too and we have none in our county, so have to travel to either Chatham, Liberty or Glynn counties for doctor, dentist or ER. Staying in the network does save $$!

I have a plan that is basically catastrophic with an HSA and FSA. I pay $118 twice a month for the insurance and then $50 a pay (down to $25 in 2008) to the FSA. I don't recall what my employer pays but they say it's more "cost effective" than the old PPO plan.

Yeah, we use network doctors too and we have none in our county, so have to travel to either Chatham, Liberty or Glynn counties for doctor, dentist or ER. Staying in the network does save $$!
I will say though, they will pay in a life or death situation if you use a out of network provider. We faced this when we had our wreck and I had to be life flighted to a non-network hospital. They paid 100% and even paid for the life flight and ambulance as well, so I can't/won't complain. It is a pain though, having to travel so far for a routine doctor visit every time, but I make the most of the trips when I go to the "Big Towns," LOL.

I pay $39 every two weeks. $25 copays. No dental (I choose not to- it's cheaper to pay myself.)

Our costs depend on our income, which I dislike. Do people who get paid more get sick more? This kind of sounds like the tax they put on electric bills to help low income people. Pretty soon, we will have to each choose a low income person to live in our basement.

DH's company pays 100% for him. For DD, DS and I it is an additional $100 a month. That includes health, dental, eye, and prescriptions. We have great insurance. I cannot complain one bit about it. I love my insurance company and the customer service they provide.

My prescriptions alone are over $1000 a month. It is point of sale so I pay up front, come home and file it on the computer and have my money direct deposited back in my checking account within 4 days.

We also have a flex account and DH contributes the maximum each year to that - $5000. Between all of our co-pays, OTC meds (they started including these two years ago), glasses, contacts etc....we use every penny of it.

DH also has all kinds of other policies - cancer, long term disability, short term disability, life insurance, you name it he has it. He is a CPA and works in the accounting department for an insurance company so between policies offered by the AICPA (CPA professional organization) and his company he gets great rates on all of his policies.

Yep, I forgot to mention that hubby contributes to the Fexible spending each year too and they also pay for all OTC meds. We make sure we use every penny of it as well. I love it! Between dh and myself, our RX meds only runs $30 a month which is the co-pay amount, so I just pay it when I have the prescriptions filled each month. If I had your RX bill, I would do the same as you.

We pay about $300 a month for health, which includes vision and another $20 a month for dental. Both our plans are very good and pay for just about everything. Even our dental paid for the majority of my braces a few years ago. With our vision, we got 1 pair of glasses every 2 years for $15 and an eye check every year for $10. Our dr copay is $20 and any hospital is coverec 100%. We have been pleased with our plan. DH's employer pays about $600 per month towards it.

We are very very very fortunate that dh retired from the military. We were able to keep our Tricare Prime at a cost of $465/year for the entire family (6 of us). It is the same amt no matter how many family members we have.

We pay $0 out of pocket if we see a doctor at the military hospital and $0 for prescriptions (even free OTC meds) if we use the military pharmacy.

If we get referred to a dr out of the military hospital, it's a $12 co-pay per visit. Hospital stays (because the military 'hospital' is really a clinic) are $25 per night I think?

We can choose to not use the military hospital or pharmacy. Then it's $12 per doctor visit and prescrip co-pays are between $3-9 depending on generic or name brand. Some name brands are a little more than $9, like Prevacid :eek:

This also covers our eyes...eye exams but not glasses :rolleyes:

We pay more for our dental insurance w/ less coverage than our health insurance. But don't get me started on that one....

Nah, speaking as a young'un who has independent insurance, things aren't so bad. I'm on the Simply Blue plan w/Blue Cross Blue Shield. I pay 105.50 a month (I'm 22, don't smoke/drink, in great health). If I go to a regular clinic, the insurance pays the first $1000 per year (so no copay) on any visit/tests/etc. After that I have a $5000 deductable. Yikes!

The good thing is that I hardly ever have to go to a doctor, so it is very unlikely I'll ever go above the $1000 that they pay. The bad thing is that if I ever have to go to the ER or a hospital for a test of some sort, then that goes towards my deductible, which is high.

I figure this insurance is good though. I'm young and healthy and have some room to go to a doctor without having it go directly towards a deductable. They also ALWAYS pay for generic drugs and 80% of name brand, which is nice. And, in case I ever do get in an accident and rack up 15,000 in medical bills or something..at least I'll only have to pay 5000 dollars...

Something is better than nothing. As far as I know, my insurance costs will not be raising with the 1st of the year.

I carry the insurance for my family. My company pays for my medical and Dental 100%. To have dh, dd, and ds on it, it costs me $500/month.

We have a $250 deductable with a $20co-pay for doctor visits then 80/20 after that. Prescriptions are $10 for generic and $20 for name brand scripts.

No vision insurance for us :(

So far I have no complaints as the Lord thus far has blessed our family with good health.

Well, DH is a partner in a company so we pay around $14,000 a year for medical coverage and we have $30 co-pays and prescriptions are generally about $20 each (less if something simple like anti-biotics or nebulizer treatments for DD). It is funny, people think you make a lot of money running your own business but once you factor in health coverage and excess taxes that we need to pay, several of DH's employees end up taking home more than he does.:eek:uch:
