I didn't drive at all till I was 17... and then it was on the way home from my permit test (which I passed). I didn't want my license. My mom had to trick me to get me to go driving. She'd get home from town and say she forgot milk and make me go get it and stuff. Sneaky! I'm glad she did though! I enjoy my freedom... I'd hate to have to depend on someone to drive me everywhere I needed to go.

How about you? When did you learn to drive? How old were you when you got your license? Did you pass your test the first time?

At 16, I followed series of coarses to drive...but my dad never let me drive the car, once I had the permit....he let my dh, who was my boyfriend, back then, when we were 19, but not me. Well, I never wanted to drive his car later on, either. I was too mad. Pierre and I bought a car when we were 22 yrs. old. Then, I drove a car.

I was 28? ( I was a fraidy cat) and I got my license on my 3rd. try. I just kept getting all flustered with parallel parking. Finally did it right for my license and haven't done it even once since. I'll park a block away from someplace if I have to to avoid doing it, LOL.

I love to drive now but not in snow. I'll avoid that at all costs.

Darlene! I'm the same way! I canNOT parallel park for the life of me. I park down the street. lol Dave laughs at me, cause he can parallel park soooo good!

When I took my test it wasn't really parellel parking, we just had to kind of pull in between these 2 barriers. I lucked out. ;)

I was 18 or 19..don't remember. When I went for my physical the doctor asked me why I waited to get my license as he got his when he was 16, told him I didn't really need as someone else always took me where I wanted to go.

I passed my first time

I got mine when I was 15. Passed the test first time, I so wanted to drive my 64 1/2 Mustang that I tried really hard! Granddaddy had bought it for me as a birthday gift a month before my birthday.

I was 16. I passed all the tests on the first try. I will never forget learning to drive a stick shift though. What a nightmare. I also took a European Driving Course when I was 17. It was really cool. It taught you how to react and drive in a bad weather situation. Nothing worse then going around a corner and having the back end of the car come around on you. They used these special cars that when they pulled a lever, the back end would slide around like you were on ice or snow. Had a blast.

Farm girl here- I don't remember when I learned to drive. I DO remember being 8 years old and driving my dad's stick shift truck, loaded with grain- to the elevator. I'd take it in, someone there would weigh it, and dump it, then I'd drive it home.

Now-a-days- EKKKKK!!!!! No way would I have let my kids drive at age 8! Back then, it was just the way it was done.

My kids all have/did drive before they were "legal". My 13 yo dd can drive if needed.

At one point- my dh passed out while driving my kids to the sitter. My then 10 yo son, stopped the car and then drove it 7 miles to the sitters. Not ideal, but. . . . .

I was 12! I grew up waaay in the country, so I learned on a dirt road, like most of my peers. I started driving on the highway at 14 and *legally* at 15, when I got my learner's lisense. I passed my diriver's test on the first try at 16. Of course, by then, I had been driving for a few years.

I was 15 when DH (then my boyfriend) started teaching me to drive. I drove in circles around their yard in a giant boat car. (73 Ford LTD) I failed my test first time around (Darn parallel parking) but got my license a month later at 17. (The legal age in NJ)
