how to get muffin tops like the coffee shops have

l kinda need some advice l love to make muffins and every time mine come out of the oven l can never get them to be like the tops that you buy at a coffee shop what am l doing wrong, mine seem to come out sticking on the top and they are cooked all the way through. l have even tried and put them on broil for a bit,so ever bit of advice is helpful

When I first learned to bake muffins I was told to let the batter sit in the pans for 10 or 15 minutes before baking to let them crown.. I think it depends on how heavy the batter is too

Yes. The batter needs to be thick. The problem with people saying to fill above the halfway mark or 3/4 mark is that muffins can then end up a real mess. Undercooked or muffin batter that touches and so the muffins bake connected.
Maybe this isn't what you were looking for, but I find that sprinkling some plain white sugar on the top of each muffin gives it a nice "crust" on the top. :)
My favorite part of a muffin is when streusel is on top ... Here's instructions I found on Allrecipes.com:

Combine 2 tablespoons flour, 5 tablespoons sugar ,and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl. Cut in 2 tablespoons butter with fork or pastry blender until mixture resembles course crumbs. Sprinkle over batter in muffin cups.

thank you all for your advice but stacyy find a site that l tried and it worked putting the oven at 450 and bake for 8 min then turning oven back down to the temp it suppose to be and finish cooking and it worked the tops were nice and high . thank you all for your help
