Today's episode hit home. I don't often watch, I was tired, and didn't feel like doing anything...
In away I'm gald I watched, in another, I feel guilty I did :blah:
Today Oprah had 2 families try a one week challenge. No TV, except 1 hour a day(combined, not each), no video, no ipod, no computer except homework and work. No take out, EAT the leftovers, don't throw them out, no shopping except for groceries, no lights on unless in the room, no temp set above 70ºF.
These families had a hard time. They threw out insane amounts of food. It was scary. She through out dry goods to make room for "new food". They figured they threw out $800 a month in food!
They had a hard time, but made it through the challenge. They did it! And they won't go back.
Oprah headquarters figured out they were spending $41,000 in paper cups a year!!! That is more than alot of people make! She had put out a no paper day, there were no riots all regular staff came prepared. Now she has instituted that there are no more paper cups at all, except for their freelancers. All regular staff bring a cup.
Dh company did this a few months ago, they went as fas as supplying a travel mug and a water bottle for each staff member. It was less than what they were spending on the cups, and now no one can complain.
As I walked around the house i realize how many lights do get left on, even if it's "just" a nightlight.
I'm going to do my own little challenge.
1- get my 30 day menu plan set up. I'll share the details tomorrow.
2- get on the electrical issues..lol
3- limit MY tv and computer time. I limit the kids.... time to limit mine.
4- get moving more. Be it walking a dog, or walking with the kids. Need to do more.
5- to compliment the menu plan, I'm going to use Flylady resources, and come up with a doable house plan.... family involved.
This is the first steps. Now I'm off to get supper started, and will start on my plans tonight. No computer necessary.
So have a good night everyone!
