In the twenty wishes thread one of the things I had posted was that I would like for DH and I to take a couple of mini (2 to 3) day getaways together this year. Normally a larger piece would be about the moeny than I'm making it this time around. Not to say it is not a part of the decsion as it is. I just have made this part of our budget for goals instead of crossing it off the list when we par down. Something else will go this time.

Ok...to the point now. What I am looking for are nicer places for a 2 to 3 day getaway with stuff to do nearby....and of coarse any way to get a deal on activities/lodgings suggested would be great. (such as "the blah blah hotel is really nice in western blah AND they have coupons if you ask for half off tickets to all the local museums"

We are from the Louisville area and wouldn't want to be looking at more than a 3 to 4 hour drive with a 1 to 2 being prefrable.

How about a mini vacation in Louisville? (I assume you are in Kentucky). I used to stay at the Hilton right off of the interstate when it was first built and had a great time. There were plenty of shops for shoping the hotel was very comfortable and the resturant selection was nice. For me at the time it was a 6 hr drive each way which was the only downside.

Santa Clause, Indiana has a water park if that would be of interest. They have different discounts that they offer during the summer. Last year Pepsi has some discounts for it. There is a few state parks and history things in that area too.

Henderson, KY has a blue grass fest. Don't know the date

Owensboro, KY has a lot of summer things going.

How about Grand Old opery. Nashville, TN Music city has a lot of things going.

We love Kings Island; Its in the bottom part of Ohio, really close to KY. Sorry don't know where Louisville is located w/o looking at a map. If you go for 2 days the 2nd day is really cheap. You can go to the amusement park the first day and the water park the 2nd day. We like the water park so much we go there for 1-1/2 days and the reg park for 1/2 of a day. We stayed at Baymont really close to the park, but not in it or right outside to save dollars.

I think Madison, IN would be within your 200 mile radius. Madison is just beautiful. Sitting on the Ohio River (the river bank has benches to just sit & relax), shops, museum, B&B's, mansions to tour, history, architecture, call the visitor center & get info or google Madison. A trip you will never forget. One of my favorite places.

I was just going to suggest this. When we visited my brother in Lexington we went to Kings Island. It was a blast!!!

The Opryland Hotel in Nashville runs specials and it is beautiful. I could live in the gardens. At Christmas it is to die for.

If you go to Nashville Coyote Ugly is on main drag, 2nd avenue, along with with the White Horse. Both are great.
