We have that book by the same name and it really is incredible. All of our beds are raised beds. What we do when we make a flower bed is lay down a section of newpaper, put about a foot of loam on top of it and plant our bulbs. Around the edges of the beds, we put rocks for a border so the loam doesn't wash away. We honestly get no weeds (the newspaper blocks them). Plus, my yard is really rocky and there's a ton of roots everywhere, so this really saves us from backbreaking labor when it comes time to plant things. Our gardens are rock, root and weed free. How can you go wrong with that?
