My husband is on the chopping block at work. It's not because of the economy and it's not because he doesn't do a great job. It's all because he got a new store manager. He has been with the company for 3 years. In that time he has been promoted 3 times. He works late almost every day (usually 55-60 hour work weeks) and never calls in sick. His last store manager (a respected manager in the company) told him that he is ready to manage his own store. Then that manager left and went to a new store. Now he has this new store manager that just doesn't like him. The store's sales have gone way down, and the only change that was made is bringing her in. He is getting all the blame and it is not his fault. I have never met a more hardworking man (it's even frustrating at times). He is gonna try to talk to someone and do what he can to save his job, but she has told him that a firing is coming. We don't hold out much hope that he will keep his job and are desperately trying to find him something else.

He should absolutely go around his store manager and talk to the district manager about his situation in this case.

He is definitely going to try that. However, with the way these stupid big box stores work, they usually have a formula for fixing a failing store. First they fire the second in charge (my husband) and then if it doesn't work they fire the store manager. He will end up being a cusualty of her failures.

I agree with Greebo. I'd go to the district manager and bring proof of how things were before and after the new manager came in. I'd even have them contact his old store manager and ask him/her how your husband contributed greatly to the store when he/she was there.

That really sucks and I hate people like that. I hope your husband gets to keep his job!

My father was the most hard-working man I know. He was a big advocate of doing your job well, and he was VERY proud of his reputation at work. After about ten years of being the manager in a farm-supply office, his boss came up to tell him that they were letting him go. Why? Because the boss's son needed a job. So, thanks and sorry, but you are gone because my loser son refuses to start at the bottom and work his way up. It CRUSHED my father. He had put his life's blood into that job, and felt betrayed and cheated.

The good news is that by getting laid off, it caused him to go look for work elsewhere. Which got him a job at FMC. Which got him a better salary, better health benefits, a much nice working environment (cleaner and more professional), and a group of friends with whom he became so close, one of them even asked to be buried near my father, after my father passed away, and the co-worker came down a year or two later with inoperable brain cancer.

So, sometimes these things, although they seem like the end of the world, are just a door opening to bigger and better things. It appears to me that if your husband were truly appreciated at that company, they would have offered HIM the manager position when his old manager left. I suspect, after he is gone, they will be sorry they didn't, and he will be much happier working somewhere where his skills and loyalty are appreciated.

I agree and hope this works. I am so sorry this is happening to you all. Like Greebo said have him try to talk to the DM. Sending hugs and good thoughts your way.

I hope all things work out for you! I myself have been in that type of situation and at the time it felt like the end of the world but it opened up so many more opportunties and better jobs. Hang in there, it will all work out. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I agree with this. :yeah: He doesn't have much to lose by doing this, sounds like.

This is just awful. Can his old manager put in a good word for him. I understand they still work for the same chain.
Also a good avenue to pursue - get help from old allies when talking to the district manager.

Are there any other stores owned by the same company in his area that he could transfer to? It sounds like only a matter of time before the current manager has enough rope to hang herself and lose the job she has and then maybe your DH could transfer back as the manager.
