Ok, so I fixed a veggie stir fry for supper tonite. I had the veggies in one pan, the meat in a second pan, and the tofu in a third (kinda of annoying, but, hey, trying to meet the demands of all my eaters and still provide good, healthy food!)..... so anyway, this was my first ever attempt at cooking with tofu. I bought the firm, pressed it like you all said, and then cubed it and marinated it in a teriayaki type sauce with sesame seeds. I made my hubbys meat for him, thinking the kids would share his and made the whole block of tofu, thinking I would ask each kid to try a few bites. I made a pot of brown rice, and then it was assembly time. Instead of family style, I made the bowls at the stove for each person. I gave them a bit of rice, some of hubbys meat, so of the veggies, and few pieces of tofu.......
next thing I knew, they were singing the praises of the tofu!! My special ed child actually is saying right now that tofu is his new favourite food!!!! They starting picking out the meat, and asking me for more tofu - so I didn;t get much, but hole-y mackeral.... THEY LOVED IT!!! My four year old was saying "tofu rocks!".
Hubby was NOT amused. He hates that I am a veg (he is a farmer-type guy) and all he thinks is that the beef farmers are getting the short end of the stick on this "veg thing".... whatever, I don;t talk to him about it, I just eat. But when one of my boys asked if there was anymore tofu, (and it was gone).... my hubby said that there was more meat. DS said "I didn't like the meat, I loved the tofu though!!!) I smiled silently.... and hubby got up from the table more than a little ticked off!!
