Some of you folks with a little age on you will apprecitate this. The author is unknown:

GOD BLESS THE PARENTS WHO DRUGGED US..
The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question.
"Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?"
I replied I had a drug problem when I was young: I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.
I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.
I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity.
I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and cocklebur's out of dad's fields.
I was drug to the homes of family, friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood; and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.
Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.
God bless the parents who drugged us.

Cute, but it's "dragged." :) Sorry, that is the English major in me. Doesn't sound quite as funny with "dragged," I guess. :)

I believe in discipline. If more parents did it and I'm not saying beat your kid. All children need discipline. I was considered mean when my kids were growing up. They had to do as I say. I raised 6 kids. They all work they all take care of their respondsibility. They all help other people. If the goverment would stop stepping in on everything just maybe there would be less children in trouble with the law.

So true - tha mantra that I was brought up with too and forms the guidelines for raising my daughter and teaching my students. Without expectations how does anybody know what they are reaching for?

I agree! Also, way too many parents out there these days want to be a "Pal" instead of a Parent...and we wonder why some of the kids out there these days are so screwed up?....

Listening and talking to children about issues are totally different things than giving discipline and being friends ... i think there are times when all apply to the parent child relationship ..... although hearing what used to happen to kids and what happens now ... i wish parents did not have to feel threatened by the law if they punish their children ... i am not talking beating ... but spanking at least ... although some people think spanking is beating too .. Ugh

I do not believe in beating children but Paige got it 2x growing up and she needed it and now we have a respectful adult relationship. Worth every lick I gave her and one of them I went black and do not remember and she will not talk about it except to say it was bad and do not push mommy that far, cuz you won't like it.
