Ok, fess up if you're a NASCAR fan.

I never thought I'd like racing, but a few years ago I started watching it with DH, and now I love it. :D

I'm a #17 Matt Kenseth fan, how about you?

Concidering my screen name for several other sites is Go6MarkMartin6, my myspace page url is myspace.com/MarkMartinRocks, etc... I would have to say I LOVE NASCAR. My daddy use to race against Bobby Allison, Red Farmer and all of the Alabma Gang in the 70's. I have newspaper articles where he would win one week and come in second or third the next behind these guys. My parents were best friends with Bob and Helen Harmon (both have passed away) growing up. Bob founded All-Pro racing and he was one of the most popular short track promoters. In either the late eighties or early nineties All-Pro joined with Winston Cup and became Nascar Winston Cup All-Pro for a year or so. Okay enough - I have so many stories about several racers and stock car racing. I grew up on a short track. Once my daddy had his accident and lost his arms my uncle took over racing for our family.

Today is a sacred day in my house. No one talks to me or disturbs me from the time the race comes on until after it is over.

Since Mark has gone into semi-retirement I have no favorite full-time driver. Instead I have made a t-shirt for race day that says "Anyone But Jeff or Jimmy". I have never been a fan of either. But instead of pulling agaist someone I have got to find someone to pull for but no one has the appeal to me Mark does.

GO TONY STEWART!

We started watching Nascar ironically the Daytona 500 in 2001 when Dale Earnhardt was killed. We've been hooked ever since.

This will be the third year we travel to Darlington for the race (Great race by the way). We went to Dover a few years back. There's nothing like going to a race in person.

My parents used to take me to a local dirt track every Saturday night when I was a kid. That's where my love of stock cars really started.

BIG, BIG NASCAR fan here!! Everyone in this house watches NASCAR. I grew up watching it with my g-pa, uncles, cousins, etc. My favorite is Jr.!!!

Go Dale! Go!! I have been trying to keep up with the saga of DEI and him. I would hate to see him leave the company his father founded, but I sure understand his reasons. I think he deserves to have say so in DEI.

Off the soap box now!

I also like Harvick, Kane, Newman, and Martin, but I cheer the loudest for Jr.

What on Earth happen down there today?! BTW check out my first ever avatar. Just about everyone that I would have cheered to victory lane was out of the race. There's always next week I guess...

Me! :D
I got hooked when I lived in NC for a year. I have to keep getting up & moving when I'm watching the race though. The sound of the cars going around and around and around and around.... puts me to sleep!! :rest:

That is me too. I always take a thirty minute to an hour nap in the middle of the race. I try not to but it is the one time of the week no one is allowed to bother me.

I live for my races. I have been a fan of racing my whole life. I love the old school racers the best: Jarrett(both Ned and Dale), Yarborough, Martin (my favorite), Rudd, Wallace, Bobbie Allison, Donnie Allison, Farmer, Richard Petty, etc... I like the ones who have been around since way back when - the ones who don't do burn outs, but take a victory lap instead.. Alan Kulwicki was awesome!!! I cried so hard when he was killed. I love to watch ESPN classics when they show the old races. I also love to watch home videos my dad made at Talladega in the pits, early 80's. It was so different then. None of the media hype, or commercialism like it is now. I do love the races now, but there is something to be said for it from way back when.

I agree with you 100% on this. We can't forget Davey Allison, Dale Sr, and BP either. I do not think that a lot of the "young guns" really understand where the sport has came from. Such as the Pettys building cars out back in the shop, having the entire family involved with the business. I think that some of them have come to Nascar just for the glamour. In the last several years the sport has gotten really big and I would hate to see it become a "circus" so to speak.

Neeley, I usually work on my craft projects while I watch (been teased a lot over the years for doing "girly stuff" while watching a redneck sport), or just have it on while doing other things, and do not actually sit there the entire time.

I'm a HUGE Dale Jr. fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My DH bought me a new curio before Christmas to keep all of my collectibles in because I outgrew my old space. He unfortunately is a die-hard Kevin Harvick fan. There is some major rivalry in my house! We live in NC and get to go to a good number of races a year. We're closest to Martinsville VA so we go there for both races. (I got the spring tickets for Valentine's Day!) We also go to Charlotte on occasion and used to go to Rockingham. This year we are planning to go to Richmond as well.

P.S. I noticed my DH was looking at me funny while we were watching the race. I finally asked him what his problem was. He said "nothing, I just love you because you love racing as much as I do". I'm thinkin' that was a compliment but I'm not quite sure! LOL

Truly a kindred spirit here! Me too! I have been following him for many, many years. My dad is a Interstate Battery distributor (Bobby's previous sponsor), so I actually began to love racing in the early 90s when DJ drove for Interstate. When he broke contract and went to Yates, my loyalty went to the new driver, Bobby Labonte. My loyalty followed him to the 43 car last year. In fact, I cheer against JJ Yeley because Bobbys contract was not supposed to up till the end of this year, but Gibbs Jr wanted a young gun. But let's get honest about it, a move to Petty racing was NOT a step up for Bobby. Still he's my fav. I have met him, his wife, and Joe Giibbs and they are all neat Christians. I have always enjoyed seeing him, he is very personable.

Did you all hear us last night screaming for Martin? We may not be huge Mark Martin fans, but we love to see veterans win! Oh, at least it wasn't that #5 car!! (hate the Busch brothers!)

LOL! I got hooked on NASCAR when we moved to North Carolina in 96. I thought it was strange when folks in line would say "how ya'll doing in the points?" instead of "how ya'll doing?". My kids like different drivers. DD is totally in love with Tony Stewart. DS likes Jeff Gordon. We all like Dale Jarrett and Mark Martin. The only driver the whole extended family agrees on in Mark Martin. As soon as the race was called last night- the phones were all going off with folks calling "he was robbed" and so on. My driver was Rusty Wallace. Now that he is retired, I am leaning toward Carl Edwards (local boy).
Only seen one race live- Busch series last year here at KC Speedway.

IntelMom, I'm be a Bobby fan no matter where he goes. You have to be a Petty fan if only for sentimental reasons. Yes, I think I did hear something, or maybe that was me, hehe. Have to cheer for the "gray beards."

Some of you may remember that when I was pregnant with Paige and didn't know whether it was a boy or a girl I jokingly reffered to her as "Baby DJ (Dale Jarrett)....lol So yes, I am a NASCAR fan. I was at the edge of my seat the last 10 laps Sunday night....I even missed the first half of the final episiode of REBA because it was just so exciting.
