I'm trying to recreate the spice mix that comes with this boxed spaghetti dinner (scroll down to see ingredients). I'm sure it's simple since it doesn't have tons of ingredients, and it's the right size of recipe for our needs. I just don't know how to recreate it, and I hate the thought of experimenting and having to throw it out if it's no good.

Spice Mix (Dried Onion, Salt, Food Starch-Modified, Monosodium Glutamate, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Sugar, Spice, Dried Garlic, Dried Celery, Artificial Color)

OK ingredient list go from largest to smallest amounts so let's see...the word "spice" is as useful as tits on a boar hog, I don't suggest using MSG (Monosodium Glutamate)

You could try dried onion flakes, a pinch of salt, smaller pinch sugar, Italian seasoning, garlic powder and just a dash of either dried celery or celery salt. (if using celeery salt I'd omit the regular salt)

Yeah, the "spice" thing made me roll my eyes...could be one of a thousand spices.

I was basically thinking the same thing, regarding largest to smallest ingredients. The packet probably has two tablespoons of mix in it (I'll measure it next time), but some of that is likely filler, and it's not a huge pot of sauce, so I'm thinking starting with 1 teaspoon of onion flakes and working the rest of the amounts from that.

I had to quit using boxed things a few years ago. I just looked at what was in the seasonings and added in the things that were "on diet". We never missed the packets and it wound up being cheaper in the long run.
