Yes, just a simple flat panel for the kids to use. It went out about two weeks ago. It just goes on and off and needs to be replaced.

Do I really need to spend 150.00 at bestbuy for a new one or should I just go with Craigslist? It's a HP. School starts in three weeks here so I really need it and plus it's my backup computer. I obviously can't use it now because there is no picture.

TIA for the tips. :)

Honestly? I would *never* buy computer equipment from Craigslist. You have no way to know how well it was treated, and it really is sensitive electronics.

LG makes what I consider an AWESOME flat screen for a good price- ceashels and I both have 1 for our PCs

I didn't want to go with Craiglist myself. So lead me to the wonderful LG! Where do I buy/find it at?

Just went to best buy website. lg moniters that are out now are a little expensive. There is a new hd coming out soon doesn't say what date for around $100. Went to Dell website; have not had one, but they had quite a few for around $100.

I just went to bestbuy.com. The cheapest lg moniter was $180. I then went to Dell and they had quite a few for around $100. I have not had a Dell. I have a acer that is quite a few years old and it still works fine. Best buy is getting a hd lg moniter for $130. Doesn't say when they will get them. Hope this helps some. How about checking consumer report you can check it at the library for free to see what model they recommend and they will tell you prices too

Sorry I don't know what happened I posted and went to bestbuy website and came back and my post wasn't there. Then I posted this and it showed up!!

My Dh works for HP but is out of town,as usual. I can ask him for other sources if you like. $180. for a monitor for the jelly fingers gang would kill me. As I say this I hear Greebo scream. But I have often bought stuff for the kids like that at G.sales. I usually pay $10. for printers and have bought at least 10. i have gone from the 500 to 900 series this way for 3 computers. My house is networked as my DH is an international network admin. who loves to upgrade things.
Moniters.Does it have to be a flat screen? In a pinch I would grab a huge dino monitor and save for a flat. But bare in mind I have a tech on call, literally. My personal feeling is that stuff is a tool and as dispensible as paper napkins (use it up,throw it out). Just make sure all the cable are w/ it. Once I bought a business plotter printer for $5. I thought my DH would pee himself. I guess it was worth $500.?? Take geek w/ you. Lat month I bought a whole system for $100.(not old) which seems to now live in Dh office as a horse (work machine used to test others or do repetative chores). Good luck w/ whatever you decide. If it isn't one thing...

If the LG is too expensive have you thought about someone that sells used computer equipment? Don't know if that would be as bad as CL but...a thought........

I wouldn't buy another dell ANYTHING.........though mine is still going. It died when 1 1/2 years old. Customer service was horrible.......if you could understand them......they sent the wrong part....blah....blah....blah....never again!

You could ask around to see if anyone knows someone in the computer field. Sometimes the techies have extra parts lying around that you can get for a good price. Check at work also, someone in the computer area might have one. Best Buy also has open box items which might help. I am not sure about quality but have you thought about wal-mart, target those types of stores? Good luck. I hope you get it worked out.

23 inch LCD Hannspree. It was the cheapest, but nice. Funny story about how long it's been since I shopped computor stuff.....We got there and I told the sales dude that I wanted a basic one, nothing fancy. There was one for 99 bucks. Sweet, we bought it and took it home. I had no idea it didn't come with speakers. lol. That is a must. heh. We returned it and spent *cough* two hundred bucks. for this one.

I have to say the picture is so nice. I was so used to using all the old stuff, so maybe worth it. lol

I hear you about knowing about computer stuff. I was using a really old computer. Could not print, save to disc, with it only could surf the web. So I hook up the new computer and guess what. I didn't even know what kind of discs to get to store files on. Seriously!!! I had to ask the guy at CVS what I needed. Luckily he was into computers.

Sad thing is is that my BIL works for HP. The last thing he wants to do when he gets off work is talk computor stuff or fix one. We only bother him when we really, really need to. He gets a little grouchy. :p
