yes,, go on to the hosp web site and see if there are any openings.. and look into training programs...not to say u have to go now just start doing research.

Thank you. That is what I am looking at now. I want to work more behind the scenes. More like office support, cafeteria, housekeeping. Not looking to do nursing. Also not sure if anyone knows, but they are asking for a credit check. Why would they do that? My credit sucks. Thank you!

If there are openings, you should be able to get housekeeping or cafeteria work, but it may be part time. Office work generally requires a college degree of some sort.

As for the credit check, there are several reasons. Ranging from the mindset that late on bills = late to work, or that if you're in debt, you might steal from patients or the hospital. I know some states are trying to ban pre-employment credit checks.

If you get an interview and make it to the credit check stage, you might try to explain your credit report. "My credit isn't great, like many others in this economy, I lost my job, and fell behind. I really need this job because of that, not in spite of it." Or something to that effect. I'd be upfront instead of leaving them to draw their own conclusions from information that's none of their business anyway.

I worked in a hospital in labor & delivery as a Unit Tech/Clerk, also as a scrub technician for C-sections. I'd had my medical assistant certification prior to that, but while interviewing...HR told me that it was my previous experience working in a nursing home that got me through the door, not the MA certificate. I do know it's helpful to have something like a CNA, those classes don't take very long.

Not sure on the credit check, I know they didnt do one on me...or I wouldn't have been offered a job then ;)

One thing I would say is be prepared to work nights (and I mean OVERnight while the world is asleep), weekends and holidays. Go in with a WILLING attitude - so many people are unwilling to get out of the 9-5 Monday throught Friday mindset that they miss a lot of opportunity.

Hospital jobs

Please forgive me if this reply does not come out right, because this is my first time ever replying !! You can go the the hospital website and look under careers or employment. Hospitals are frequently hiring in the Dietary Dept. or Housekeeping Dept. These jobs do not require a degree. They tend to come open frequently, because of high turnover. Also, one of our local hospitals has a job titled Transporter, where you transport patients to various locations within the hospital. This is an entry level job. My sister once got hired as a Transporter, but due to staffing shortages, she was often loaned out to Dietary or Housekeeping. She is a mature person, and this work was too tiring for her, so she had to quit. I am a retired person, living on a tight budget, and one of these jobs would be great for me, but my bad knees would not last one day !! Our hospital also has a kiosk in the Human Resources Dept. where you can access their job line. Your local hospital might have this also. These entry level jobs are often a ticket to better paying jobs within the hospital system, because they will post other jobs on an inhouse jobs board and hire a current employee applicant before posting the job for the general public. dietary, laundry, housekeeping, admission clerks, etc. Our hospital provides valet parking service - so if you have a good driving record and current driver's license, it's possible to get hired for that.

We also hire patient companions, to sit with confused or suicidal patients - in order to reduce our number of restraints in use. No special skills needed, just have to have patience and be willing to work in that sort of setting.l
