Orange Cream Rolls

Recipe Description
A unique sweet roll made with a cake mix, cream cheese and orange zest. It will remind you of bakery danish.
Preparation Steps:
Level of Difficulty:
average
Time Needed:
Ingredients:
Rolls:
2 1/4 cups very warm water
1 envelope dry yeast
1 yellow or white cake mix
1 TB grated orange zest
5 cups flour

Filling:Blend together,

8 oz cream cheese
1 1/2 TB orange zest
1/2 cup sugar

Glaze:
1 cup powdered sugar
2 TB orange juice
Serves:
half a roll
Directions:
Dissolve yeast in water. Whisk in cake mix. Add zest. Blend in flour 1 cup at a time. Set aside to rise for 45 minutes. Meanwhile prepare filling.

Roll dough into a 18X10 inch rectangle.(my dough was very sticky)Spread filling over dough and roll up tightly. Cut roll into 15 portions and place in greased 9X13 pan(very tight fit). Let rise 25 minutes then bake 19-25 minutes at 350*. Top warm rolls with glaze.

This does look very good. When you roll it, does it roll easily? Meaning do you need to flour it or use plastic wrap or anything or is it manageable? I ask because you said your dough was sticky. :)

~Yes I used extra flour for rolling and it stuck a little on my floured surface as well. I'll probably reduce the water in the recipe when I make them again but I didn't want to alter the recipe in case it was an error on my part or the humidity or something. These were super yummy though! They're not as sweet as the recipe *sounds*.~

How warm is "very warm" water? The rolls I made the other day called for "warm" water at 115-120º.

I bet Dave will love these :)

After they've risen could you refrigerate them? I am wondering how canned/tubed rolls work? I have more time in the evening to prepare, but would like to have them for a morning treat. TIA

Do these rolls come out really large? With 5 cups of flour AND a cake mix I'd think this is lots of dough. I know there is also 2 1/2 cups of water but that is a lot of dry ingredients.

Regardless I'd really like to try this. Orange seems to be my favorite flavor right now....especially orange and chocolate....yum!

~Yes, you can refrigerate the rolls after rolling them out but before the second rise. Just pull them out 30-40 minutes before you plan to bake them so they can rise.~
Now would the same apply if I wanted to freeze it (freeze after first rise)? The recipe as is is way too big for my little family so I was hoping to flash freeze the recipe into little batches and bake as needed.
