You should already be seeing the increase.

They were projecting an increase in June. The article posted talks about the price increase in past tense.

"In northwest North Dakota, fields normally flush with wheat are full of frogs. That, combined with a smaller-than-usual stockpile in the U.S., has pushed up prices on everything from alphabet noodles to ziti. The cost of pasta jumped about 20 cents in the past few months to an average of about $1.48 a pound nationwide, said Walt George, president of Kansas City, Mo.-based American Italian Pasta Co., the nation's largest maker of dry pasta."

When my friend and I were talking about this at the grocery store today. We both said we would probably be making noddles.

I know I saw the increase here, so when I saw it at the food thrift, I bought about 30 boxes of low carb pasta. It was about 69 cent a box. Which is unheard of for low carb pasta. I also used a coupon and got about a combo of barilla pasta and classico spaghetti sauce (the ones sold in canning jars) for $1.99 a combo. Which I thought was a super price considering I was getting a pound of pasta, a jar of sauce AND a canning jar. I bought about 10 combos. I also have about 5 boxes of whole wheat pasta that I got for free using a double coupon.

This week I see that San Giorgio pasta is on sale for $1 a box. I thought I'd get some to add to my pantry since my oldest eats about 2 pounds of pasta a week by himself. I appreciate you posting this article, it helps me to determine what to spend my food dollars on this week. Pasta is a huge thing in our home. I use it in soups, to make Asian noodle dishes, pasta and red sauce, pasta with Alfredo sauce (I've got a great homemade white sauce recipe for Alfredo using dry milk powder), sides of buttered noodles. It's on the menu as much as beans are here.

I went to Walmart this morning. Their store brand of 16oz boxes of various pasta was now $1.06 for the longest time it has been $1.00. Did not price the Muellers, etc.

thanks for the info. I just assumed everything was going up but it is good to know why. We don't eat that much pasta but I was going to start since it was so inexpensive. So.....looks like I will be stocking up on some and I guess......flour too!

i had to throw it out because of all the moisture in the basement from irene this past weekend -i guess the whole month of august being damp and wet and then with irene caused the boxes to get yucky and swell ( i think pasta absorbed the moisture since it was boxed ) despite the fact we didnt have a total flood in basement dh spent 5 hours trying to suck it up with shop vac to dump it out as it came in .

in 22 years at this house even having basement flood in past never had that happen before to my pasta
plan to store it in plastic boxes/ or two gallon ziplocks for now on just for an extra barrier

i actually was at shoprite they had bags of a certain brand on sale for 49c for a 3 day labor day sale and it had a limit of 4 of each type and i got bows- shells - angel hair - penne and 9 spaghetti

i may go by tomorrow and get some more if work allows me the time they had a few other types also

I am so sorry you lost all of your pasta! Your plan now should prevent that from happening again. Take care!

I was Shaw's Thursday and Fri they had Ronzoni Quick Cook pasta marked down to 1.00 a box original price 1.99 so I bought 7 boxes of it does not expire till 9/2014.
I have notice prices rising every week.

Shaws this week in NH has a sale .88 per box for Prince or Ronzoni (first sale I've seen on pasta in a looong time.) This is when I stock up for the year, best price I can ever find.

brennasmom ,

Thanks again for the reminder and prodding. I bought a bunch at Meijers sale this past week. .30 higher then my usual set point or last year but oh well got what I needed.

I do make lots of my own pastas but still love to have stocked up for the quick meal nights.

Hugs and Blessings,

i actually was at shoprite
ShopRite :sigh: .... a flash of childhood homesickness just darted though me and then made me smile... "come to shoprite's can, can sale, you know you can, can, and stock up on your can, cans" ....ect with all the little dancing cans

ok, back to the present.... I have been grumbling about the rise in psta prices here for several months. Last fall/Christmas time there were still sales on the store brands that frequently ran it 3 boxes for a dollar. 4/$1 wasn't that long ago either. Over the last 6 months I've only seen it (store brand) on sale for .79 a box maybe twice. .99 is the new sale :eek:uch:
