Who is out there from Portland? I'm trying to start couponing and I have questions...

Are there grocery stores which regularly double coupons? I see that some of them have a coupon to allow four doubled coupons. Is that a regular thing? What about using store and man. coupons? Who objects? Who allows?
I wish that coupon mom did her "best deals" list for Oregon. Does any one know of a site which matches coupons with local sales? I was addicted to couponmom in NJ.
Any suggestions on secondhand stores? We had hardly any in NJ but Goodwill on 122nd here seems very expensive and only worth it for the "tag color of the week". PACS has better prices but fewer items.
Any other cool things you have found here??

Hello fellow Oregonian! I don't coupon much so I'm no help with that but I would suggest that you look at Winco for grocery shopping. If you found the Goodwill (and yes their pricing is outrageous) on 122nd you may have noticed the Winco north across the parking lot.

This Winco is clean and pretty new, as is the store in Gresham. I find the store on 102nd filthy and wouldn't shop their after dark by my self. JMO. Their prices are signifigantly better than Albertson's or Safeway or Fred Meyer and they accept coupons. Oh, you bag your own groceries and they credit you .5 for each bag you provide if you are into that.

(Last Monday Winco had Ragu for .96 ea 32 ounce size and Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix (family size) for .78 ea. No Limits. If you had coupons you would rally score.)

There are Salvation Army Thrift Stores that have 50% off everything on weekends in the area. Prices are better than GW. I go to one in Gresham on Stark and Hogan Rd.

Winco's saved my life when I first came (December) and I had nothing. I couldn't afford to get 5 lbs of white flour, 5 lbs of ww flour, 4 lbs of sugar etc. all at once. I could afford 4 cups of each out of the bulk barrels and then buy bulk/bag whichever was cheaper when I ran out.
I'll check out the Salvation Army's. I didn't know about the 50% off on weekends. Sad to think that I need half off used prices...lol.

There are a few from the Portland area.........I'm not. I'm in Washington but I really like Winco!

You have a large area to check for thrift shops.........should be able to find something. Check the phone book and 'go for it'..........I would love to be checking out that area....all the surrounding towns would be fun!

Haven't seen Luckybustert (LB) on here in awhile....but she is from that area too.

For just the 'ad prices'........... SundaySaver: National - Weekly Sales Circulars & Sunday Newspaper Ads might help........they list a bunch of stores from all areas........not just Oregon. I like it and use it quite often. Some small privately owned stores might not be listed but most are.......

Hey! That Goodwill on 122nd is the one I hit when I am in Portland!! If you are there during the week and see a short fat lady with three polite teen/preteen boys, that might be me!!

Do you hit the Seven Day Adventist thrift store that is just down Halsey? I love that one. It is where I have found most of my cast iron.

Safeway used to double up to four coupons. There was a coupon in their ad. I don't get a Safeway ad anymore (like haven't for a few years) so I don't know if they still do.

See if there is a Grocery Outlet near your travels. I know I save a ton by shopping there. Luckily, there is one in the little town I live in.

I know there is a Food4less (think that is the name of it) up 122nd a ways. I don't know how far really. I think Powell, maybe. That might be a place to check out prices. I haven't gone in there since my twins were babies.

On up 82nd, near Foster or Johnson Creek, there is a Freddies Red store. It is all their clearance stuff. I checked it out once. It seemed like there might be some pretty good prices depending on what you need. I think you could get a better price in their store when they have sales though.

I think there might be a Value Village near that Freddies Red store also. I haven't been in one of those forever. I didn't find their prices to be very good and it isn't where I normally travel so I don't frequent any of them.

Oh yeah!! The DI!! Up 82nd, near King Road I think, there is a Deseret Industries thrift store!! I love that thrift store! That is where I bought the guys' shorts for this summer. I spent like $10 and got three pairs of shorts and other crap there. They wash their clothes before them put them out. It is very clean also and the clerks are polite.

Zakity you're good!! I forgot about DI its on 82nd and King Road.

There is a large Salvation Army Store between 122nd and 102nd on North side of Halsey.

There is also the "Bins" Goodwill Store--that's what my DD calls it--it's where everything goes that doesn't sell and clothing is sold by the pound. It is on Grand Ave. I will have to look up the address.

Oh--one more tip--Tuesday is when the 122nd Goodwill puts out new stuff.

Kita there are a couple of great sites that I follow here. I have my own frugal blog but I count on Frugal Living NW to let me know what stores are having the best deals.
Albertsons and Safeway double coupons. Most, of not all, let you stack MQ's with store Q's.

Yeah, they have "the bins" out in Hillsboro/Aloha area also. I do a lot of shopping out that way.

Hi Kita, welcome to Oregon! I don't coupon, mainly because it's so time consuming and most of the things I see coupons for are things I don't use. As others here have mentioned, Winco is good. Some of their meat prices can be a bit high at times, but overall it's usually got the lowest prices. Don't assume it's always the lowest, though, because sometimes it's not. It really pays to watch the sales at the other stores and take advantage of their loss leaders. Grocery Outlet is good, we shop there a lot. We tend to stock up on things we like - for example, we're apt to get a case of diced tomatoes or a case of collard greens, etc. if we see them at Grocery Outlet. My hubby has a complete circuit of several Goodwills he goes to, including the one with the bins in Hillsboro/Aloha. I don't like going to that one much because it feels like a bunch of piranhas at feeding time -- people will literally knock you over to get at things in those bins! Then there was the Salvation Army store that initially called itself a "Salvation Army Boutique" until they apparently realized they were in the the wrong neighborhood for that and changed it to a "Salvation Army Family Store"...lol....oh well, nice try on their part! I think thrift stores in general have higher prices right now because more people are shopping there due to the economy and people are willing to pay higher prices (after all, it's still significantly less than if they went to Macy's or other retail stores). Be sure to check out the Grower's Outlet at 161st and Glisan - great selection of fruits and vegetables, reasonably priced, and I've seen really good prices on milk there too (not sure if it's like that all the time or if it just happened to be that way when I visited). I really like Value Village, and I'm going to have to check out that Freddie's red store!

I have found two stores which really rock for prices.
The first is Dollar Books which is at NE 122nd and Glisan. It is a second hand store for just books. All trade paperback books are $1. Large paperbacks are $2. Hardbacks are $3. All Children's are $1. The quality is EXCELLENT.
Also, there is a food liquidator store at about 145th on Stark. Last Sat. night they had organic salad (50% baby spinach/50% spring greens) for 50 cents. You have to watch dates. Also all kinds of chips for 50 cents a bag. Since I can only eat organic corn, it has been a godsend. Lots of organic choices for chips, et.
Oh, there is a Franz bread bread outlet next to it that has good bread.

Hello everyone,

Just thought I would pop in and say "hi" to the local people here!

Personally, I love Save a Lot on Foster. I do my grocery shopping there first, and finish up with Fred Meyer when I can't find something I need. I can get 10-12 bags of food there for $75, and their stuff is almost always decent, especially since they cleaned the place up a few months ago.
