Anyone here a romance novel reader? :D

Who's your favorite author? Favorite book?

Primarily, I read historicals in the Regency and Victorian period but I like Harlinquin Presents as well and the "In Death" series by Robb is quickly becoming a favorite too.

I like historical romances that are not too racy. I really loved Barbara Cartland, and still re-read those on occasion. I read a lot of things, but old romances seem to be the "comfort food" or my reading.
I love Beratrice Small, I read her stuff over and over. I love sci fi romance and while I really liked JD Robb the profanity got to me after awhile.
I love Regency romances. If you like Julia Quinn, can I recommend Eloisa James and Suzanne Enoch? Especially EJ -- she's GREAT!

I'm just the opposite, the racier the better, lol. I haven't read a romance novel in years, any recommendations to some good racy "oh my!" :thud:kind?
You guys are too cute. I loved reading your favorite authors and genres. I have two preferences for romance novels. The first is the novelletes - Nora Roberts did a couple with three other ladies with titles like "Once Upon a Dream" "Once Upon a Rose" "Once Upon a Time" etc. I really like these because I am one of those people who really get engrossed in books ie. I have to finish it in one sitting. So the fact that I can finish one of the four novelletes in each book in ~1.5-2 hours is great! Also, they can be a little racy, but not very much - it's such a short novel there isn't enough time. I also like that the front covers don't embarass me if they are lying around the house. My 18 month old daughter loves to pretend to "read" my books...can you image her sitting there "reading" a novel (upside down most likely) with a naughty cover?!! It is hilarious to think about, but would be mortifying if it actually happened.

My second choice is usually a historical romance. I just read a book not too long ago called "The Smuggler's Bride" - it was really quite charming. I'm a big regency fan, although I really like it when there is a little mystery to be solved as well. There is an author that writes some regency novels starring "Lord Nightingale" which happens to be a parrot who helps solve mysteries. I found these books to be charming, heart warming, romantic and funny - I often laughed right out loud.

When I find a good book like any one of these my stress levels drop tremendously - it really does wonders for my outlook on life. I think it just puts my dreams for everything I want in life back where they belong in my heart and hopefully in my future. I don't know about you, but when things are tight and stressful, I feel like my dreams for happiness, security and romance are the first to go out the door. But a little laughter and a smile on my face from one of these books and then I can see how charming my husband is at times and how funny my little girl can be. I look forward to checking out some of your suggestions...so thanks for posting!

Racy? Darlene?

Karen Moning's Highlander series has had me blushing even though there's nobody else in the house and I'm nearly 50 years old. I think she heats things up pretty well. :fuming:
Darlene, A friend of mine just lent me a blusher (as I call them) over the weekend. Easy read but got the heart palpitating. The author is Gena Showalter and she has a series called Lords of the Underworld (not as sci-fi as it sounds). I think the one I read was called Darkest Kiss. She's lending me another tomorrow. Again...a big blusher. :toothy:
My favorite is Luanne Rice. She's a great storyteller. I like Nora Roberts, especially the trilogies. And Fern Michaels' Sisterhood books, although I don't know that they're romance - more like "I wish I could do that" books. Also Anita Shreve and Diana Gabaldon.
I used to read a lot of historicals but now I read mostly Paranormal romances. Some real racy stuff is Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series. YUMMY. I like both the really trashy (my hubby calls it lady porn) as well as the less racy. As long as the sex fits with the story line.
