Salisbury Steak and Gravy


Recipe Description
Ground beef patties smothered in gravy. Excellent with mashed potatoes.​
Preparation Steps:
Level of Difficulty:
Moderate​
Time Needed:
1.25 hours, including prep​
Ingredients:
3 lbs. ground beef
1/2 - 1 pkg onion soup mix
1/2 - 1 cup oatmeal
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
Garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste (easy on salt because soup mix is salty)
Gravy (see note below)​
Serves:
Directions:
With hands, combine all ingredients in large bowl. Shape into desired sized patties and place on large baking sheet and bake at 350F for about 30 minutes (this will removed any excess grease and fat from beef). In a 9x13 baking dish, place patties and cover with gravy. Bake an additional 30 minutes or till gravy is thick and bubbling.

NOTE: For the Gravy, you can use leftover homemade or storebought gravy that comes premade in a jar (2 jars) or in a package (2 pkgs). You can also use 2 cans of cream soup diluted with 1 cup milk. I've made it all ways listed but it really is best if you use the homemade.
Once you make this you will never grab for a premade tray from the frozen food section at the grocery store again!!
For OAMC: Freeze the precooked patties in a foil pan with or without the gravy. Reheat frozen dinner in oven till hot and bubbly (I would guess about 1 hour).​

I haven't had salisbury steaks in a long time and will give these a try this week. :D

I made these this morning to cook for dinner tomorrow. I made a small little patty and cooked it to taste for seasoning and it was wonderful. I also added some green peppers and mushrooms finely chopped in the processor so the kids wouldn't know they were there. Always looking for ways to get more veggies in the kids.

A dumb question i think i know what you mean when you have
1/2--1pkg onion soup mix for there is to pkg. to a box.
but what do you mean by
1/2--1 cup oat meal do you mean eather 1/2 cup or 1 cup?
And how much salt,garlic powder,and pepper do you use?1 teaspoon,1/2teaspoon or more or less?
I would like to make these since i can freeze them.

When I read the recipe, I took it to mean to use from 1/2 to 1 pkg of onion soup mix...to your family's taste...less=less salty and onion taste...more=more salty and onion taste...

1/2 to 1 cup oatmeal...use from 1/2 to 1 cup oatmeal depending how wet or dry you want your salisbury steaks to be...also some ground meats have more moisture than others...

Also...regarding the spices...to taste is how I took it, and how I'm gonna cook it...JMO

Hmm, for some reason I can no longer see the ingredient list. Is this just me? I was going to make this for dinner tonight.

No, it's not just you. Apparently some time back when there was some sort of change in the forum, the ingredients were lost or not transferred. I went through the same thing - not being able to find the ingredients.
