For those Sandra Dallas fans, here is another one of hers The Chili Queen I just picked it up at the library.

Life may have been hard on Addie French, but when she meets friendless Emma Roby on a train, all her protective instincts emerge. Emma's brother is seeing her off to Nalgitas to marry a man she has never met. And Emma seems like a lost soul to Addie-someone who needs Addie's savvy and wary eye. It isn't often that Addie is drawn to anyone as a friend, but Emma seems different somehow. When Emma's prospective huband fails to show up at the train depot, Addie breaks with all her principles to shelter the girl at her brothel, The Chili Queen. But once Emma enters Addie's life, the secrets that unfold and schemes that are hatched rouse both women to question everything they thought they knew. With Sandra Dallas's Trademark humor, charm, and pathos, The Chili Queen will satisfy anyone who has ever longed for happiness.

CJ, can you tell us what you did not like about the book? Was it offensive in any way?

Debster, for me it was offensive. The book may have gotten better but the first few pages can turn me completely off a book. The Chili Queeen is a brothal and here is a quote:

No sense buying good china when the wh_______s (I won't type the full word here) were likely to throw it at the customers, or each other.
Others may like the book and think its one of her best writings. I just wanted to give a bit of warning. I so enjoyed her books Alice's Tulips and The Diary of Mattie Spencer, this one just sorta through me for a loop!!!

I'm reading this now. I agree that the beginning was a bit offensive, but I'm on page 100 or so, and it's not as bad now.

I was a little surprised by it, but I have to keep reading so I can see how it ends :)

I finished The Chili Queen this morning. It was good, but not nearly as good as her other books. I am going to borrow The Diary of Mattie Spencer at the library this week.
