4 June 2011 Shirley Poppy (Papaver rhoeas) 4 June 2011 Shirley Poppy (Papaver rhoeas)
Two Shirley Poppies were in bloom today. It has been so wet that the plant vegetation is yellowish and growth is inhibited. Most if not all home garden poppies are of the type Shirley (Papaver rhoeas), if not the opium type Papaver somniferum, which flower slightly later than the Shirley. The seed is from self seeding and sometimes I scatter seed around in the Fall, and let them bloom where they pop up.
