They say variety is the spice of life, and I'm all about adding variety to my table! Do you like to experiment with different spices and seasonings when cooking? Do you buy spices in bulk? Do you create your own spice and seasoning mixtures? Please share the spicy details!

I'll get us started by sharing the recipes for my favorite homemade seasoning mixes ~

Emerils's Essence (aka BAM!) ~ copycat recipe

5 Tbsp. Paprika
1/4 cup Salt
1/4 cup Garlic Powder
2 Tbsp. Oregano (dried)
2 Tbsp. Thyme
2 Tbsp. Onion Powder
2 Tbsp. Fresh Ground Pepper
2 Tbsp. Ground Red pepper (cayenne)

Blend together. Store in tightly sealed container in cool dark place for up to 6 months.

The Lady and Sons House Seasoning (Thank you, Paula Deen!)

1 cup salt
1/4 cup black pepper
1/4 cup garlic powder

Mix ingredients together and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

Red Robin Seasoning ~ copycat recipe (really good on fries!)

3 tablespoons salt
1 tablespoon instant tomato soup mix (Knorr tomato with basil works nicely)
2 teaspoons chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Combine the ingredients in a small bowl and stir well. Store in a covered container.

We just cleaned out my spice cabinet the other day & took inventory, man do we love spices. I have a large corner cabinet right next to the stove and it has a double shelved lazy susan in it. Not an inch to spare on that baby...let me go take a pic...

I just like grabbing a bit of this and that while I cook and I'm guessing salt pepper & garlic powder are my most used. I reuse jars so some of them may look outdated but they aren't. I get my spices from bj's and refill those older jars. I do like going to stores like Wegmans and getting bulk spices when I can too.
