How many of you are stay-at-home wives?

I'm wondering what kind of responses you are getting from people around you, now you and DH are empty-nesters and you are home alone?

A lot of people think I must be looking for work or want it. I do, kind of. But not full time. Maybe part time. And, truth be told, I need a lot of flexibility due to my illness, and just plain because I have a lot of other interests I'd rather follow. Anyone else finding people a bit pushy/over bearing about them being unemployed and well, kind of liking it?

Peanut I am not a SAHW but work about 8-10 hours a week. I get a ridiculous amount of grief since one kid is grown and the other will graduate next year. The older the kids got the more people thought I should be working full time. You'd sweat it was a crime the way some people act. It works for us so I have no idea why people think they get an opinion on the subject.

I don't know why people would be critical of someone not working if that's their choice. I say more power to you if you can make it work. Personally, I could find billions of things to occupy my time and make me "productive" if I didn't have to work. Ignore them. They are like me. Jealous! :)

I work very part time from home. I've always been comfortable with myself and enjoy being alone for the most part. I don't really care if other people think I should have another job. When they start having to pay our mortgage, then maybe they can have a vote.

Thanks everyone. SD, especially for the laugh. I know some people who would just love to 'vote' on my lifestyle. But, like you, I ignore them for the most part. Gets hard when it's a parent with double standards though. Or a sibling trying to scare me and make me paranoid about DH...using my illness against me. Needless to say, I limit contact.

SD I sure like your attitude!!!!

Peanut I have had people tell me I'm an idiot to trust dh since I am not making much $ and don't bring in to support myself when he runs off. PLEASE dumb people shut your trap is what runs through my mind. Seriously , why on earth would it be wrong to trust your husband? I mean shouldn't that be the 1st person you should be trusting to always have your well being at heart? I think trusting him is exacrly why we have been happily married so long!!!

I have come to the conclusion it is plain jealousy from the people who make such ridiculous comments. I think on occasion of possibly going back to school for something I would like to do full time and can physically handle full time since I cant handle my job more than a few hours with my back. Reality is I like life the way it is. By the time I got a 5 year degree I would spend 100K+ and be 50! Plain fact too our lives would be much more expensive if I worked out of the home full time.

Mine would never leave. He'd have to give up half the house and half the farm and ALL of the dog! LOL.

I think people who say not to trust the one person you should trust either don't trust their partners or have been badly burned in the past by trusting them. Either way, it's a sad situation for them, but still doesn't make your business their business.

Could you eat it if you pick out the pie crust bits? Or does just the fact they're mixed in with the other stuff cause a problem? I know next to nothing about gluten allergies.

I wonder what would happen if I tried hacking those Blizzards. I already have an ice cream recipe that's similar to DQ's ice cream. I wonder what would happen if I added more sugar or Splenda to the recipe and put in some pumpkin pie spices and pumpkin. Vanilla wafers crushed up would make a good substitution for the pie crust bits. I bet that would work! I might have to think about that. Those Blizzards are riDQlously expensive, too!

I love pumpkin anything, too. How did you make the pumpkin smoothie? I have canned pumpkin, plain Greek yogurt, bananas.
