Syrup recipes

Thought some of you might enjoy these.



Apple Cider Syrup

1/2 cup sugar
4 teaspoons cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup apple juice
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons margarine

Stir sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon in a small saucepan.
Add apple juice and lemon juice.
Cook and stir the mixture over medium heat until thickened
and bubbly.
Cook and stir for 2 minutes more.
Remove the saucepan from the
heat and stir in the margarine until melted.
Serve in a lidded pitcher.
Makes about 1 1/3 cups.

Blackberry Syrup

4 cups blackberry juice
4 cups granulated sugar
Powdered pectin -- (optional)

Mix the blackberry juice and sugar, and bring to a boil.
Boil rapidly for 2 minutes.
Skim off foam.
Pour into HOT sterile jars or bottles.

This makes a thin syrup.
If you want it slightly thicker, add a small
amount of powdered pectin (less than half of a 2-ounce box) to the cold syrup and sugar mixture.

This is for use on pancakes. The syrup can be stored in the refrigerator if you intend to use it quickly.
Otherwise, sterilize canning jars, pour into
the jars to within 1/4 inch of the lid, adjust lids and process in boiling water canner for 10 minutes.

Blueberry Syrup

6 cups blueberries
1 cup white sugar
1 cup water
1/3 cup corn syrup
2 teaspoons lemon juice

Combine all ingredients in large saucepan.
Heat and stir over medium high heat until it boils.
Simmer covered for 10 minutes. strain.
Pour into 2 hot sterilized 1/2 pint jars.
Divide evenly.
Add boiling water if needed to fill within 1/4" of top.
Seal.

Yield: "2 1/2 pints"

Cherry Syrup

3 cups whole cherries or 16 oz.
1 can pitted cherries -- packed
1 in water -- (sugarless)
1/2 cup fruit juice
unsweetened -- (or water from
canned cherries)
1/2 cup honey
2 teaspoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon water
2 teaspoons cherry flavoring
(optional)
red food coloring

Pit cherries and sieve them through a food mill to separate out skins.
In a saucepan, bring pureed cherries, juice and honey to a rolling boil.
Mix cornstarch and water and whisk into boiling fruit mixture.
Boil for 5 minutes total; then remove from heat and whisk in cherry flavoring and food color.
Makes 1 3/4 cups.

Maple Syrup #1

1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup water

Place all in sauce pan and bring to boil, with lid on.
Boil about 5 minutes, again with lid on.
Remove from heat and either use, or leave lid
on and let cool.
Store in refrigerator, it will thicken when it is refrigerated.

1 teaspoon maple flavoring

Combine all ingredients and bring to a boil.

This one keeps the best, as the corn syrup keeps it from
crystalizing.

Praline Syrup

2 cups dark corn syrup
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup water
1 cup pecan pieces
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Combine syrup, sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat.
Bring to a boil; boil for 1 minute.
Remove from heat; stir in pecans and vanilla extract.
Pour into hot jars, leaving 1/4 inch head space.
Adjust caps.
Process 10 minutes in a boiling water bath.
Makes about 4 pints.

NOTE: If you are going to use the syrup in a fairly short period of time, make half a batch and keep in the refrigerator.

VANILLA BUTTER MAPLE SYRUP

Recipe By :Mr Food's Easy Cooking Magazine Jan/Feb 2000

1 cup maple syrup
3 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon vanilla extract

In a small saucepan, combine all ingredients.
Cook over medium-low heat until butter is melted and syrup is warmed through.
Makes 1 cup or 8-2 tablespoon servings

1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
2 cups Apple Juice
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup butter

Mix sugar, corn starch, cinnamon and nutmeg in a saucepan. Stir in apple juice and lemon juice. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil for one minute.
Blend in butter.
Serve warm over apple pancakes.
Top with sour cream

Blackberry Syrup

6 quarts blackberries -- (6 to 10)
3 cups Cider vinegar
Sugar

Place sound ripe fruit in a stone crock and pour the vinegar over the top.
Cover top of crock with muslin.
Let stand in a coll place for 3 ~ 4 days, stirring twice a day.
Strain mixture through a jelly bag with out crushing
the fruit.
Measure the juice into a pan and add 1 lb of sugar for every
pint of juice.
Heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves, bring to a boil, and
boil gently for 5 minutes.
Bottle and seal and dilute to taste for making a blackberry drink.
Store in the refrigerator or in a cool, dark, dry place.

In a sauce pan combine peel, juice, sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon.
Cook until bubbly.
Cook for 2 min, stir in fruit.
Heat through.
Serve warm.
Chill left over syrup, covered for up to 3 days.
Makes 1 1/2 c.

***Note if using canned fruit packed in juice..use the drained juice in place of the fruit juice..adding enough water to make it 1 Cup

Heat

1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
Serve warm.

Cinnamon Apple Pancake Syrup

1/4 cup butter
1 cup low carb pancake syrup
1 packet sugar free apple cider drink mix

Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat.
Do not let it brown!
Add the pancake syrup and the apple cider drink mix and heat and stir until the drink mix is completely dissolved.

Serve warm over pancakes or sausage.

1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup orange juice

Combine all ingredients in small bowl; stir until well blended. Refrigerate in airtight container until ready to use.
Use syrup to sweeten tea and glaze fruits.

1/2teaspoons nutmeg

Maple-Apricot Syrup

Heat 3/4 cup maple-flavored syrup with 1
1 tablespoon butter or margarine and
1/4 cup apricot nectar. Serve warm.

1 cup maple-flavored syrup with
1 tablespoon butter or margarine and
1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Serve warm.
