the easiest thing i've ever made in the crockpot (or otherwise really) is chicken in the crockpot.

you take 1 whole fryer
put it in the crockpot
cover with pepper & salt (i put garlic salt on it too)
that's it no water, nothing
turn pot on high for 6hrs

what you get:
a falling off the bone chicken and half full crockpot of broth
i use tongs to peel the skin and pull the chicken off the bone
i then divide it up in freezer bags and freeze
ive frozen the broth before too

No water? I'd be afraid it would burn. Does the fat from the chicken keep it from sticking to the bottom? It sounds good, but I'd just be afraid of burning it

thats what i do. i will b doing that this week to so i can use the meat for the end of the week. i dont think it sticks at all. the juices from the chicken and fat make enouph liquid that u dont need to add. with a cp the less liquid u add the better unless ur making soup.
i also like to add onions and a packet of onion soup over the top. the flavor goes threw the whole bird and is delish! :tay:

I cook whole chicken in the crockpot too, but sometimes I slice a lemon and put the slices in the cavity of the bird. Oh my, it smells great and the whole chicken is infused with lemon.

Wow this sounds great. I would have never thought to not put water in when cooking an entire chicken. I will have to try that sometime.

Does the chicken have to be fresh? What if we use a frozen chicken?

Me too,

Make this at least once a week. No water and either frozen or not, doesn't matter:) I will be doing this tomorrow and making southwestern chicken taco soup with half and chicken salad for lunches with the other half.
