I spent a number of years working as a social worker -- we're all "bleeding heart liberals.":lol3:

Seriously I am a firm believer in living in balance in all areas of life, so I try to walk "the middle path." That can be difficult because you have people pulling at you from both directions. And I have been labeled a not just a liberal but a "big bad one" for some of the craziest things

Give me a few years and I will be a member of this kith! I have always been a staunch conservative but voted Democrat in this last election. I'm a moderate now, but given time I'll probably lean further and further left. My husband teases me that I have gone over to the "dark side."

Karl Rove, Cheney and Bush have proved beyond a doubt that the Right is WRONG!! The only thing they are good at is terrorist state building.

My MIL used to be republican and now considers herself a democrat. I always am surprised when that happens because all my life people would say to me "Just you wait, the older you get, the more conservative you'll get!" and that has yet to happen!

What change for me is the way black people were treaty in is country. There are lot of people who work hard and struggle just do right for their family. These people are not lazy.

Noticed there are a few "political" statements in this thread. It is probably not the intent of the original poster to start a political discussion.

I am just the opposite of what they told you :), I was much more conservative when I was younger and now as I have gotten older, I have become much more liberal.

My parents are old school democrats -- and my father is a WWII vet! They raised me well, but I think my ideas are a tad bit further left than theirs ;)

One of the reasons I'm a progressive liberal is that I do not have, never have had, and never will have the neo-conservative-think going on. You know the one, 'I got mine and if you didn't get yours, it's your own [email protected] fault. Plus, since it is your fault you are failing, I have no responsibility to help you.'

I hate that the GOP has apparently succeeded in making the concept of giving a [email protected] about anyone other than yourself into a character flaw.

That's what Gramm's remarks yesterday reminded me of as well. For those who may not have had a chance to hear of this yet, yesterday, Mccain's top economic advisor Gramm (remember Enron, Mortage Crisis, Oil Futures :monke:) said Americans are a nation of whiners and that we are in a 'mental recession' LOL! Yep.

So you mean all my problems are in my mind? Not in my checkbook?! This is great news. Yes, and now you too can just will your heating bill to get paid, or your electricity bill or your mortgage or your medical bills. And your car doesn't need gas, it can just run on good vibes and will power.

Those sillly neocons.

Well said gg! This is exactly what has chased me away from the conservative side. Some of the neo-Con stuff is just way too mean spirited for my taste.

(Sorry if this opinion doesn't belong here, rcannon. Delete if this is offensive please.)

I think it is totally appropriate to state the reason why we have chosen a particular defining political label.

I spent most of my twenties being a very strong conservative because of how I was raised and my first marriage and my huge family that surrounded me. It was like at that time I didn't have a brain to think for myself and I just went with the flow with my family. Something just didn't sit right with me and I started to question many issues. It wasn't until I took a step back and really looked at all the issues and I had to look at both sides to be fair. I would say it was slowly coming but I guess I am a big leftie in my 30's and pushing 40.lol And happy.
